About the Role
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all environmental, health, and safety programs at the manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, reduces workplace risks, promotes a strong safety culture, and supports continuous improvement across all production operations. The EHS Specialist also serves as a key liaison with regulatory agencies and leads initiatives that support environmental compliance and employee safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, implement, and maintain all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular facility inspections, safety audits, environmental audits, and emergency response drills, documenting findings and corrective actions.
- Identify workplace hazards, conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk.
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near‑misses; perform root cause analyses; and implement long‑term corrective measures.
- Develop, deliver, and track employee training on PPE, Hazard Communication (HazCom), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), forklift and mobile equipment safety, ergonomics, emergency procedures, and environmental compliance.
- Manage hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and oversee environmental permits, including air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and other required reporting activities.
- Monitor environmental conditions and ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit‑ready documentation of inspections, incidents, training records, safety metrics, and environmental reports.
- Serve as the facility’s primary liaison with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulatory agencies; coordinate responses to inspections, citations, or compliance reviews.
- Lead and participate in safety committee meetings; partner with supervisors and leadership to drive engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Support EHS aspects of new equipment installations, process changes, capital projects, and facility expansions, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated.
- Develop and track EHS performance metrics; analyze trends and recommend safety and environmental improvements.
- Stay current on emerging EHS regulations, industry standards, and best practices; recommend policy and program updates as needed.
- Perform additional EHS duties and special projects as assigned based on business needs.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of EHS experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment (vehicle, metal fabrication, or assembly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable state/local regulations.
- Experience developing and implementing safety programs and conducting employee training.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Certifications (Not Required)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- OSHA 30‑Hour Certification
- HAZWOPER Certification
- First Aid/CPR Trainer Certification
