The David C. Frederick Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the position of Program Director for the Rees Chancellor’s Scholars Program, a selective four-year merit scholarship cohort that represents one of the University’s flagship philanthropic investments in undergraduate excellence. The Rees Chancellor’s Scholars program advances the goals of the University’s Plan for Pitt 2028, particularly its commitment to expanding student achievement, increasing access to high-impact experiential learning, and strengthening pathways to national distinction. As a signature merit cohort supported through significant philanthropic investment, the program plays a visible role in the Frederick Honors College’s commitment to undergraduate excellence. The Program Director will serve as the academic steward of this flagship initiative, ensuring that scholars receive a transformative four-year experience that will serve as a national model for merit-based scholar development.
This is a full-time, campus-based staff leadership position responsible for the academic, intellectual, and developmental arc of the Rees Chancellor’s Scholars across all four years of the undergraduate experience. The Program Director will combine high-level academic expertise with programmatic leadership to cultivate an interdisciplinary, research-driven, and globally engaged scholar community. The Program Director will play a central role in shaping the intellectual identity and developmental model of the Rees Chancellor’s Scholars program. Working within the interdisciplinary environment of the Frederick Honors College, the position offers the opportunity to design innovative curricula, cultivate a national-caliber scholar community, and contribute to emerging models of honors and merit-based education.
The Program Director must be in residence in Pittsburgh during the academic year to ensure sustained mentorship and cohort leadership.
Facilitates the long-range plan of the University as well as the development and enhancement of the University’s student programs. Directs daily program office operations and designs systems of program evaluation.
Essential Functions
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and teach interdisciplinary seminars; develop and assess a four-year scholar development curriculum.
Mentor scholars in research, internships, and nationally competitive fellowships in partnership with the FHC Office of National Scholarships Advising.
Lead cohort-building programming including retreats, leadership workshops, and pre-matriculation experiences.
Develop and lead domestic and international experiential learning opportunities, including programs in NY, DC, Wyoming, and Oxford.
Partner with Admissions in scholar recruitment and selection; supervise the Program Recruitment Manager and Administrative Assistant.
Collaborate with FHC leadership, faculty, and development staff to advance program strategy, donor engagement, and alumni relations
Required: Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, MFA, JD, or equivalent). Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring high-achieving students.
Experience designing or leading academically rigorous programs and collaborating across academic and administrative units. Preferred: Experience with honors students, merit scholarship cohorts, or nationally competitive awards advising. Experience leading experiential or study abroad programs and supervising staff.

Hiring Range: $87,000-$92,000 Annually
