Summary of Position

The Summer Maintenance Intern supports the maintenance team with daily upkeep, work orders, and general property maintenance. This role provides hands-on experience with tools, safety practices, and basic repairs while assisting in maintaining apartment homes and grounds. The intern gains exposure to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks. This position is designed to build foundational skills in property maintenance through real-world experience while supporting resident satisfaction and overall operations.

While this is a seasonal position, continued employment beyond the summer may be offered based on performance and business needs at the discretion of the Regional Manager.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Perform all work in accordance with ARTISAN policies and procedures, as well as all relevant federal, state, and local laws (including Fair Housing, ADA, and FCRA).
  • Follows practices for the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of all facility equipment, including compliance with health, safety programs, policies, procedures, reports.
  • Assist Maintenance Team with maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds to support operational and resident satisfaction goals.
  • Assist Maintenance Team with responses to work orders in a timely manner.
  • Oppoutunity to learn to how to inspect common areas and residential units to identify and address maintenance issues proactively.
  • Opportunity to learn to diagnose and repair HVAC systems, appliances, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Opportunity to learn how to complete building repairs such as drywall, flooring, doors, hardware, windows, screens and more.
  • Keep tools and storage areas organized and secure.
  • Participate in required ARTISAN training and development programs.
  • Other duties as assigned. .

Physical Demands of the Position

This role requires frequent standing, bending, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting. Candidates should be comfortable working with hand tools, ladders, and in physically active environments. A strong understanding of OSHA safety protocols is required.

  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor with a genuine passion for helping others.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm and organized in high-volume or fast-paced settings.
  • Flexible, proactive, and committed to ARTISAN’s team-driven culture.
  • Must enjoy working outdoors and be able to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and walking.
  • Reliable transportation to assigned community locations.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Prior landscaping or grounds experience preferred, but not required.

The pay range for this role is:
15 - 19 USD per hour(Des Moines, IA)
