About This Position
General Summary
Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm
Weekend and On-call as needed
The Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing powered industrial equipment in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing equipment failures, and ensuring optimal functionality of material handling equipment while supporting facility maintenance and ammonia refrigeration operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform preventive/routine maintenance and inspections on MHE fleet, including checking batteries, motors, forks, hydraulic systems, and tires. Diagnose mechanical, electrical (AC/DC), and hydraulic failures to repair equipment efficiently.Adhere to OSHA and company safety standards, performing pre-operational checks and ensuring repairs meet safety codes. Including, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Maintain meticulous records of maintenance activities, parts used, and work orders, often using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).Complete and close-out work orders in CMMS within established timelines.Utilize technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to troubleshoot complex issues.Accurately complete required documentation, daily inspection and preventive maintenance logs, work orders, and incident reports. Demonstrate a strong understanding of electrical systems related to powered industrial trucks.Identify recurring failures and recommend corrective actions.Often assist with basic facility maintenance and refrigeration support, such as maintaining compliance with PSM/RMP programs, dock doors, and light electrical work.Stay updated on technologies and best practices for repairs, recommending improvements and innovations to enhance efficiency and performance.Participate in meetings.Respond promptly to emergency service calls concerning equipment failures. All other relevant tasks as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent.OSHA 10/30 or technical certification preferred.Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with the maintenance and repair of industrial equipment, preferably in a warehouse or distribution setting.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, electrical components and troubleshooting tools.Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.Strong mechanical skills, including comfort with using tools to make repairs.Ability to effectively use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)Familiarity with refrigeration tools and equipment, such as pressure gauges, thermometers, and leak detectors.Basic knowledge of local building codes.Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and compliance schematics.Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.Ability to operate diverse types of Material Handling Equipment safely and efficiently.Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.Flexibility to work any/all shifts.Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance and participate in the weekend on-call rotation schedule as required.Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb ladders while maintaining stability and balance. Work in a hot environment (outdoor and warehouse). Work in cold and extremely cold environments for extended periods (freezer and cold storage facilities).
