Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.

Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.

We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.

About the role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join Rippling’s Global Payroll Operations team. Our team plays a critical role in ensuring the success of our global payroll products, which are natively built and fully integrated with Rippling’s broader suite.

As a senior member of the team, you will report to the Global Payroll Operations Lead and own the operational execution for India, manage relationships with external partners, and drive expansion into new customer segments. This role brings critical country-specific expertise to support the development of our software while ensuring 100% accuracy in our filing and remittance projects.

What you will do
  • Project Ownership: Own the end-to-end execution of India compliance filings and remittances for our India-based clients.
  • Filing Execution: Execute timely filings and payments (TDS, PT, EPF, etc.) for all customers within India, working closely with the compliance team to ensure completion.
  • Annual & Quarterly Tax Lifecycle: Lead the full annual cycle, including hands-on experience in year-end income tax proof validation, annual/quarterly audits, and TDS quarterly filing (Form 24Q).
  • Form 16 Management: Own the end-to-end coordination, generation, and issuance of Form 16 for all India-based clients.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, training, and day-to-day support to junior specialists to ensure team-wide excellence and accuracy.
  • Audit & Quality Control: Conduct monthly compliance audits and implement quality control measures using Excel and formula-based automation to prevent filing errors.
  • Agency & Client Relations: Drive issue resolution with government agencies and directly interface with customers to resolve complex compliance issues.
  • Product Integration: Work with Global Payroll Engineering and Product teams to ensure natively built software supports all tax compliance requirements and to prioritise internal tooling.
What you will need
  • Extensive Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of total experience, including 6+ years specifically handling Indian payroll compliance filings and payments (TDS, PT, EPF, etc.) and 4+ years in a client-facing role.
  • Advanced Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of India’s statutory landscape; hands-on experience with income tax proof validation, quarterly 24Q filings, and Form 16 generation.
  • Audit Mindset: Proven track record of conducting internal audits and implementing quality control measures using Excel automation and formulas.
  • Expert Knowledge: Direct experience running payroll compliances in India (direct or vendor-side) with a deep understanding of compliance notice resolution and agency communication.
  • Communication Skills: Strong proficiency in English; excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for client interaction and cross-departmental engagement.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Google Suite or Microsoft Office, especially Docs/Sheets/Excel for data analysis; familiarity with Salesforce, JIRA, and Confluence is a plus.
  • Shift Schedule: Ability to overlap with U.S. hours (EST/PST). The proposed schedule is 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM IST.
