About This Position
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the supervising provider and office Manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient office operations and high-quality patient care. This role supports patient flow by preparing patients for examination, obtaining vital signs, assisting with clinical procedures, processing specimens, and maintaining accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system.
The Medical Assistant also assists with front office support as needed, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and helping create a positive patient experience. The primary goal of this position is to support safe, organized, and patient-centered care while promoting efficient daily clinic operations.
DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during patient visits and clinical procedures.
- Obtain and accurately record vital signs, patient histories, and other required clinical information.
- Collect, label, process, and prepare specimens in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain and sterilize medical instruments and equipment in compliance with infection control and safety standards.
- Document patient information accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Support patient flow and assist in maintaining clean, stocked, and organized exam and treatment areas.
- Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments, and assist with other front office duties as needed.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, providers, and team members.
- Follow established clinical workflows, office procedures, HIPAA requirements, and company policies.
- Assist with other duties as assigned to support efficient office and patient care operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of clinical medical assistant duties, including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and assisting with patient care.
- Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and specimen collection, labeling, and processing.
- Familiarity with medical instruments, sterilization techniques, infection control practices, and safety precautions.
- Ability to accurately document patient information in the electronic medical record system.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, providers, and staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced medical office environment while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow instructions, and maintain confidentiality.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certificate or diploma in Medical Assisting required.
- Experience with phlebotomy and specimen processing required.
- Ability to obtain and record accurate vital signs.
- Knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization techniques.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree or additional certification in Medical Assisting or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working in a medical office, clinic, or outpatient setting preferred.
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred.
- Experience supporting nurse practitioners or other medical providers preferred.

Strong communication and customer service skills will support positive interactions with patients, providers, and team members. Preferred experience in outpatient or clinic settings, as well as familiarity with supporting nurse practitioners and other providers, will further enhance success in this role.
