Job Summary/Objective:

The Mortgage Loan Originator is responsible for managing services to Homeowner Candidates (HOCs). This position will work in cooperation with the Construction, Finance, and Development departments.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensures HOCs comply with all requirements in order to obtain mortgage loan approval.
  • Prepares documents for assignment to mortgage partners.
  • Corresponds with mortgage partners to facilitate mortgage assignments.
  • Works with title companies to prepare and review mortgage documents and closing paperwork.
  • Acts as mortgage originator for the affiliate and ensure the HOC is within policy debt-to-income ratios. Ensures Habitat mortgage is compliant with all state and federal regulations and enforceable in a court of law.
  • Reviews application, orders credit reports, income documents and any other relevant documents necessary.
  • Identifies and reports high risk scenarios and makes recommendations to the Executive Vice President.
  • Schedules and attend closings on behalf of Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Gulfside.
  • Works with title company to obtain recorded mortgage documents and submit to banking partner for funding.
  • Records homeowner information in the mortgage servicing software (Calyx, Neighborly, etc.).
  • Other tasks as deemed necessary

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Education, Experience and Attributes

  • Minimum 2 year college degree preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in mortgage underwriting or related field.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization preferred.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information.

· Ability to speak and write English fluently.

· Understands how to separate and combine tasks into efficient work flow.

· Builds constructive and effective relationships.

· Complete HFHI BSA Anti-Money Laundering Course annually.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands/arms, listen and communicate. The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds on a necessary basis, occasionally required to stand and walk for long extended periods of time.
