About the Role
This is a hybrid role within the National Capital Region (NCR), supporting a client located at the Washington Navy Yard (WNY). Candidates should be available to go onsite 1-2 days per week
This role supports the Department of the Navy (DON), Manpower & Reserve Affairs (M&RA), in administering benefits for veteran warfighters. The selected candidate will assist in processing Barring Act Waiver (BAW) claims related to Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC). CRSC provides tax-free monthly compensation to eligible military retirees whose disabilities are combat-related.
Due to the nature of the work, an active Secret clearance is required, and candidates without one will not be considered.
What You’ll Do
- Support the processing and tracking of Barring Act Waiver (BAW) claims (31 U.S.C. 3702)
- Assist in preparing waiver packages and reviewing supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Maintain organized and accurate claim files (digital and physical)
- Communicate professionally with team and client personnel
Job Requirements
- Active or Interim Secret clearance, or higher (required — no exceptions)
- Located in the DMV area, with ability to work hybrid schedule 1-2 days per week at the Washington Navy Yard
- Strong attention to detail, especially in reviewing names, dates, and case documentation
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and retrieve records efficiently
- Ability to conduct research, synthesize information, and communicate findings clearly
- Growth mindset with motivation for continuous learning and development
- All majors are encouraged to apply, with an emphasis on Business, Writing/Communication, Pre-law, Diplomacy, or similar.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Familiarity with military benefits, BAW, or CRSC
- Prior exposure to government, defense, or federal contracting environments
- Experience or internship background in paralegal, legal admin, claims analysis, research, or similar fields
- Military service, military spouse, or dependent background
