Job Title: Logistics Coordinator
Department: Transportation and Logistics
Reports To: Production Manager / Operations Manager
Job Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, scheduling, and dispatching outbound truss loads to ensure on-time delivery to job sites while maximizing transportation efficiency. This role coordinates closely with production, sales, drivers, and customers to align manufacturing output with delivery schedules. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in dispatching and load optimization within a manufacturing or building materials environment.
Key Responsibilities
Load Scheduling & Planning
- Create and maintain daily and weekly delivery schedules based on production output, customer deadlines, and job site requirements
- Build efficient truck loads by size, weight, route, and delivery sequence (multi-stop optimization)
- Coordinate delivery dates with sales, project managers, and customers to meet construction timelines
- Adjust schedules as needed due to production changes, weather, or transportation issues
Dispatch & Transportation Coordination
- Dispatch company drivers and/or third-party carriers with accurate load details and delivery instructions
- Provide drivers with delivery paperwork, load maps, and special handling requirements
- Monitor deliveries in progress and communicate any delays or changes promptly
- Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during routes
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work closely with production supervisors to align manufacturing schedules with outbound logistics
- Coordinate with yard and loading crews to ensure correct loading order and safety compliance
- Communicate delivery status updates to sales and customer service teams
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare and manage bills of lading, delivery tickets, and shipping documentation
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, weight limits, and company safety policies
- Maintain accurate shipment records and delivery confirmations
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Resolve delivery issues, misloads, and schedule conflicts quickly and professionally
- Identify opportunities to improve routing efficiency, reduce freight costs, and improve on-time delivery performance
- Assist with logistics reporting and metrics as needed
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in logistics, dispatch, or transportation coordination (manufacturing or building materials preferred)
- Strong understanding of load planning and dispatch principles
- Proficiency with scheduling software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and perform well in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in truss manufacturing, lumber, or construction materials logistics
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety standards
- Experience coordinating both company-owned fleets and common carriers
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Office-based role with frequent interaction with yard, production, and drivers
- Ability to work extended hours during peak production or delivery periods
- Occasional exposure to yard or plant environments
