About The Role

The R-112223 Medical Assistant is an hourly, full-time position within our Medical Assistant department, supporting providers and clinical staff in delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care. In this role, you will perform routine clinical and administrative tasks that keep the practice running smoothly, from preparing patients for exams to maintaining accurate medical records. Working closely with nurses, physicians, and other team members, you will help ensure an excellent patient experience while adhering to clinical protocols, privacy regulations, and quality standards. This position is ideal for a Medical Assistant with at least 1 year of experience who is looking to deepen their clinical skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

What You'll Do

  • Support providers and nursing staff in the delivery of direct patient care within the scope of a Medical Assistant.
  • Greet patients, verify identity, and prepare them for examinations by obtaining vital signs, height and weight, and basic medical history.
  • Document patient information accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR) according to practice standards.
  • Prepare exam rooms before and after each visit, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with basic clinical procedures such as EKGs, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and wound care as directed by a provider.
  • Administer medications and injections under appropriate supervision and according to established protocols and state regulations, if certified and permitted.
  • Coordinate patient flow, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with providers to minimize wait times and optimize scheduling.
  • Perform administrative tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and handling patient check-in and check-out as needed.
  • Educate patients on visit procedures, follow-up instructions, and basic health maintenance information within the Medical Assistant scope.
  • Maintain inventory of medical and office supplies, and assist with ordering and restocking to support daily operations.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and equipment disinfection.
  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Assist in handling and processing laboratory specimens, including labeling, logging, and preparing for transport per protocol.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, staff meetings, and required trainings to maintain competencies and support department goals.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to urgent patient needs or emergencies, notifying the appropriate clinical staff immediately.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • At least 1 year of recent experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinic, physician office, or similar healthcare setting.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification or registration (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred; may be required depending on state or organizational standards.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within organizational timeframe.
  • Proficiency in English with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with computers and electronic health record (EHR) systems; ability to accurately enter and retrieve data.
  • Knowledge of standard clinical procedures, vital sign measurement, and routine office-based tests within the Medical Assistant scope.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and professional standards of conduct.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based care setting and interact professionally with patients, families, and staff.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, clinical protocols, and safety guidelines.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift or move patients and equipment as needed for the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
