This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced publishing production leader to oversee large-scale print manufacturing operations within a globally recognized publishing environment. In this senior leadership role, you will combine strategic oversight with operational execution to deliver high-quality publications on time and within budget. You’ll lead cross-functional collaboration across editorial, design, inventory, sales, and finance teams while managing supplier relationships and driving process improvements. The role offers the chance to influence production strategy, mentor high-performing teams, and champion innovation and sustainability initiatives across the publishing lifecycle. Ideal candidates are strong communicators, skilled negotiators, and passionate about operational excellence in book production. Occasional international travel will provide opportunities to strengthen vendor partnerships and support global manufacturing initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production professionals while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture.
- Oversee production schedules for new releases and reprints, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with publishing priorities.
- Collaborate with inventory management and suppliers to optimize lead times, improve turnover, and support inventory goals.
- Manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and schedules, monitor performance, and onboard new manufacturing partners when needed.
- Ensure quality standards are consistently maintained across all print products, materials, proofing processes, and vendor outputs.
- Troubleshoot production and manufacturing issues while implementing effective and cost-conscious solutions.
- Develop cost-effective manufacturing plans, analyze vendor quotes, and identify opportunities for cost optimization across materials and processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, implement production innovations, and maintain operational documentation and workflows.
- Represent the production function in cross-functional projects and support strategic reporting and communication initiatives.
- Champion sustainability and ethical manufacturing practices, including responsible sourcing and supplier compliance standards.
- 12+ years of experience in book production within the publishing industry.
- 6+ years of proven leadership experience managing production teams and complex publishing operations.
- Strong understanding of print manufacturing processes, book specifications, materials, paper sourcing, and publishing supply chains.
- Experience managing both domestic and international supplier relationships.
- Excellent financial, analytical, budgeting, and cost control capabilities.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
- Advanced Excel proficiency and experience using reporting and analytical tools.
- Outstanding communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to solve operational challenges proactively and efficiently.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required; experience in Bible manufacturing is a plus.
- Competitive salary ranging from $120,000 to $150,000, based on experience and qualifications.
