We’re seeking a detail-driven Accountant to support our Finance Department through accurate reconciliations, insightful reporting, and hands-on management of key financial data. In this role, you’ll handle everything from bank activity analysis and general ledger maintenance to capital asset oversight, P-Card administration, and grant accounting. Expected hiring range: $37.42 - $41.24
  1. Analyzes bank activity and credit card transactions for accuracy and makes necessary corrections.
  2. Performs bank reconciliation and system entries including liquor sales, flex spending, EFT fees, equipment control, fuel usage entries/inventory, and administrative journal entries.
  3. Provide support for other staff, which may include reviewing work or training employees.
  4. Maintains general ledger.

a.Sets up accounts, project and payment codes, and creates system controls to prevent errors.

b.Monitors codes and make corrections as needed.

c.Instructs others regarding proper coding.

  1. Maintains and monitors accounts receivable or accounts payable records, analyzing transactions for accuracy and compliance with procedures, identifying variances and making corrections, following up with delinquent accounts receivable procedures, and preparing related financial reports and records.
  2. Verifies and audits figures, prepares reports and other financial information, and makes analyses of reports.
  3. Reviews and processes deposits, payments and other transactions for online banking.
  4. Submits tax payments, including sales tax, fuel tax, hotel tax, and fuel refund requests.
  5. Performs Grant Management accounting functions.
  6. Maintains the capital assets system, including monitoring asset purchases; creating journal entries; documenting asset additions, improvements, transfers, deletions and depreciation; and preparing schedules for auditors.
  7. Manages P-Card administration including setting up new users and cardholders.
  8. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the Annual Budget and Capital Investment Program and other long-term planning.
  9. Assists with preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Annual Audit, including year-end journal entries.
  10. Assists in maintaining departmental accounting systems, compiling and preparing budget and financial reports and statements, monitoring budget control accounts, and analyzing revenues and expenditures.
  11. Designs and revises reports, forms and spreadsheets for improved efficiency.
  12. Provides back-up for payroll, utility billing and customer service functions.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting or related field; and
  2. Three years relevant work experience; OR
  3. Equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
  4. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and financial databases.


Desired Qualifications:

  1. Experience with governmental accounting practices and standards.
  2. Experience with Tyler Incode, Tyler ERP 10 or similar ERP systems.
  3. Experience with Government Fund accounting.

  1. Knowledge of government and generally accepted accounting principles, practices, procedures and financial reporting.
  2. Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques used in bookkeeping and accounting.
  3. General knowledge of relevant IRS rules and Minnesota sales tax laws.
  4. Ability to do administrative and accounting work of considerable difficulty, including composing memorandums, tables, spreadsheets, procedures, analysis etc.
  5. Ability to provide optimal customer service skills.
  6. Ability to analyze and interpret a variety of instructions and records.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  9. Ability to work under limited supervision with general autonomy in determining how objectives are achieved.
  10. Ability to research and apply a variety of procedures, policies and precedents using moderate analytical ability to adapt methods to fit facts and conditions.
