Operations Manager at Mothering Justice – Detroit, Michigan

The Operations Manager serves as the operational backbone of Mothering Justice's program work, ensuring systems, processes, and infrastructure function seamlessly so program staff can focus on advancing justice for mothers and families. Like the essential behind-the-scenes architects of historic social movements from Bayard Rustin, coordinating the March on Washington, to Ella Baker, building the infrastructure of the civil rights movement, to Dolores Huerta, managing the daily operations of the farmworkers movement, this role recognizes that transformative organizing requires meticulous operational excellence.

Under the Deputy Director of Administration's leadership, the Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution of operational support for Mothering Justice's programs team, ensuring compliance with multi-state requirements, maintaining the integrity of our funding relationships, coordinating resources across geographically distributed teams, and creating the operational conditions that allow our programs staff to show up fully in service of our mission. When operations run smoothly, programs can flourish, and mamas can lead, and this role makes that possible.

The Operations Manager provides operational support to the programs team, supporting program directors with budget tracking, expense coding guidance, and resource allocation coordination. This role manages vendor relationships, coordinates equipment procurement and tracking for remote and in-office staff, maintains inventory systems for organizational assets, manages organizational insurance policies and Workers' Compensation claims, coordinates office space logistics for our Detroit headquarters, processes expense reimbursements, and supports database management in systems like VAN/EveryAction and Action Builder. The position identifies operational bottlenecks and implements solutions; documents and maintains standard operating procedures; trains staff on operational systems and tools; and generates regular operational reports.

This position is based in Detroit, Michigan, and operates in a hybrid work environment with a minimum of 4 days per week required in our Detroit office. The salary starts at $68,000 annually for full-time regular exempt employment.
