Job Overview:
The Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Therapy Nurse Practitioner (NP) works as a member of the medical team to provide wound care to patients. This position is responsible for providing wound management for wounds, collaboratively with the hospital’s wound care nursing team. The Wound Care NP is responsible for creating and maintaining a plan that results in successful wound care outcomes.
Schedule:
- 24 hr/week
- Monday/Wednesday/Friday 8a-4p
Requirements Certification/Licensure:
- Graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner Program
- Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurses Credentialing Center, or both.
- Licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing and is in good standing.
- DEA, CDS License
- 2+ years of wound care experience
- Wound Care certification
- BLS, ACLS Certified
- HBO Certification preferred or must attend and successfully pass an HBO Training Course within 6 months of hire.
Essential Functions:
- Provide wound care services to patients in a timely manner.
- Provide patient education and support for the treatment of wounds, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment planning, management, discharge planning, and follow up documentation as well as health promotion programs.
- Provide care based on scientific principles/nursing theory and evidence based practice.
- Involve patient/family in developing plan of care.
- Recognize change in patient’s condition and intervene appropriately.
- Prioritize nursing actions, reflecting patient’s needs, acuity and desired outcomes.
- Implement physician orders accurately within appropriate time frames.
- Demonstrate competency in core and unit-specific clinical skills.
- Educate the patient, patient’s family, and other support persons on wound prevention and treatment.
- Identify continuing care needs of patient for the discharge plan.
- Perform hyperbaric oxygen therapy related duties.
- Ensure safe care of patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all hospital policies and procedures and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Ensure HIPAA Compliance
- Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as a preceptor, mentor and resource to colleagues and staff.
- In the absence of the front desk coordinator, schedules patients for outpatient wound care and HBO therapy, performs patient check-in and registration, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
