Health Sciences Research IT is seeking a DBA/Data Warehouse & Pipeline Architect to join our team serving the schools of the health sciences. The candidate will work with other team members and research groups to design pipelines for data ingestion/transformation and implement the designs and execute them. This will be for ingesting thousands of files and others single large files in various formats. They will help support a large number of different research groups on many projects. The candidate will support work with the project teams to understand the data query requirements to optimize query performance with indices/views/functions etc. and be able to create analytic files based on specifications provided. The candidate must understand data warehousing concepts. The candidate will be responsible for DBA functions as well such as permissions, optimization, query optimization, performance monitoring, etc. Our team has a great mix of junior and experienced people.
Required Qualifications- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and architecture
- Experience designing and implementing data ingestion and transformation pipelines
- Hands-on experience with SQL performance tuning, including: Query optimization, Indexes, views, and functions, & Performance monitoring
- Experience supporting multiple stakeholders and research projects simultaneously
- Ability to translate data and query requirements into efficient database designs
Experience creating analytic datasets/files from specifications
- Experience with one or more of the following tools: Python, C#, PowerShell, Power BI, SAS, Stata, and Web technologies
- Experience performing core DBA responsibilities, including: Permissions and security management, System and query optimization, & Performance monitoring and troubleshooting
- Understanding of Apache Spark and distributed data processing concepts
- Experience ingesting and working with: Large-scale file-based datasets & multiple file formats and highvolume data loads
- Experience working with EHR (Electronic Health Records) data
- Experience working with healthcare claims data
- Prior experience supporting academic or research-focused environments
- Ability to collaborate effectively with crossfunctional and mixedexperience teams (junior to senior)
Supports multiple more complex services/databases; designs, develops, manages, and maintains databases. Plans and maintains database architecture and reporting. Optimizes database functions and implements integrated architecture and reporting updates. Trains and guides lower-level staff.
Essential Functions
Required skills include experience as a SQL server Database Administrator, strong SQL Server skills with the ability to write advanced queries and stored procedures. Traditional DBA tasks such as performance monitoring and query optimization, security and access management, database maintenance and health management, and database availability and stability are required. Experience with some of the following tools is required: Python, C#, PowerShell, Power BI, SAS, Stata, and web technologies. When working in the cloud, tools such as Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and Microsoft Fabric are used, and an understanding of Spark is desired. Excellent organizational, documentation and communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification: Experience with health datasets is ideal but not required. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science or related area is preferred, or extensive experience as a SQL server Database Administrator including experience writing advanced stored procedures and SQL queries. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field (e.g., computer science, information systems, data science, or similar) Three or more years of experience as a SQL Server DBA
Work Schedule: 2 Days on Campus, 3 Days Remote, On campus for all required meetings
Work Arrangement: Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
