About This Position

Overview

  • Oversee Design Managers deliverables, track project objectives and metrics to ensure success.
  • Foster a positive work environment, high morale, and teamwork.
  • Manage staff assignments, provide mentorship and training for professional growth.
  • Collaborate with OHSU leadership to identify facility needs and prepare decision-support information for project approval.
  • Assess and mitigate project risks, evaluate operational impacts, and manage confidential project information.
  • Develop initial project scope, schedule, and budget to meet objectives.
  • Collaborate with Campus Planning, Facilities, Regulatory, EHRS and others regularly to solve problems.
  • Do big picture planning including Capital Council, Long Range Planning, Budget and Finance meetings, and OHSU Studies.
  • Involves a direct working relationship with Regulatory Affairs and supporting relationships with Government Relations, Risk Management, Legal, EHS, Infection Prevention, and Facilities/CBRE.
  • Responsibilities include managing the yearly hospital renewal and waiver processes, providing ongoing support with FGI code interpretation and waivers, determining waiver necessity, strategizing from OHSU's perspective, handling submission processes with Joe Ness approvals, tracking waivers, representing on the Space Advisory Committee, and maintaining a regulatory compliance folder of all communications with the State on projects.
  • Request proposals and get contracts in place, approve progress payments, collaborate on space planning, and manage programing budgets.
  • Promote and sustain process improvement initiatives across the department.

Responsibilities

  • Bachelor of Architecture (BARCH) or Interior Architecture (IARCH), OR

  • Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture, OR

  • A work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university, or similar. OR

  • 2 years additional work experience in lieu of degree at an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the field of Architecture, OR

  • Equivalent of progressive experience in a technical field of directly related work experience.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of fixed price, guaranteed maximum price, cost plus, design/build, & IDP delivery methods and construction practices.
    • Must be able to develop budgets and schedules and document project information and details.
    • Understanding of design principles and practice of architecture; civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design.
    • Strong working knowledge of common materials and techniques of the construction and remodel of academic and healthcare buildings and facilities.
    • Understanding of building infrastructure to assist project team in surveying existing spaces, conducting facility assessments, and/or equipment condition assessments.
    • Understanding of current building codes and regulations including the International Building Code.
    • Familiarity with NFPA 101.
    • Structure and content of the English language, rules of composition, report writing and grammar.
    • Personal communication techniques used to resolve disputes between people and to achieve consensus among divergent points of view.
    Qualifications

    • Advanced degree in Architecture, or Interior Architecture or similar.
    • 5 years working for an owner.
    • 12 years' work experience in architecture or related field.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Experience working at an Academic Medical Center.
    • Familiarity with NIH grant funded construction project management.
    • Understanding of Target Value Design and other Lean design and construction practices, methods, common materials, and techniques.
    • Experience with OARs & FGI Guidelines, HIPAA, NIH, JCAHO and related statutes, rules, regulations and guidelines.
    • Experience with City of Portland Permitting requirements/processes.
    • Cost modeling.
    • Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, eBuilder, MS Project.
    • Working Knowledge of PMI and professional project management standards.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Professional architectural registration or certification.
