About This Position

The City of Avondale is currently seeking a Clinical Supervisor to join the Avondale Police Department. This is a FLSA exempt, full-time position with benefits.

The Clinical Supervisor provides full-time individual, family, and group counseling to primary and secondary victims of child sexual and physical abuse and adult victims of sexual assault and domestic violence who are involved with a law enforcement investigation initiated through the partners of the Southwest Family Advocacy Center. This position provides supervision to mental health therapists, conducts one-on-one and group meetings, participates in case reviews, provides education to clients, families, and the multidisciplinary team on mental health topics, and manages the day-to-day operations of the mental health program, including the waitlist, case assignments and supervision of staff.
Provides direct services to victims of abuse (children, adults, and their non-offending family members). Provides crisis counseling, family stabilization, clinical assessment, and short-term counseling sessions using evidence-based trauma treatment modalities. Administers, scores, and interprets evidence-based assessment tools. Adheres to the National Children's Alliance standards.

Provides weekly individual and group clinical supervision to all clinical staff. Establishes goals and ensures opportunities for licensees to attain goals. Reviews all clinical documentation and provides consistent and frequent evaluation regarding evaluation, both verbal and written.

Provides clinical supervision on specific theories such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Therapy Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Court-Informed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy.

Instructs licensees regarding court support, judicial system, trial, pre-trial conference, settlement hearings, victims' rights, victim impact statements, Rule 11 hearings, and Simpson hearings. Participates in judicial proceedings as required.

Organizes and conducts individual and group counseling and psychoeducation sessions for victims and their non-offending caregivers. Identifies mental health referral sources for clients in need of long-term trauma counseling services.

Completes and maintains clinical records, including but not limited to intake paperwork, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, contact notes, notice of privacy practices, and information releases.

Ensures that all reporting requirements are met and in compliance with all grant contracts. Submits reports and statistical data as required by grants.

Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews to provide a mental health perspective and case consultation and coordinates with other team members.

Collaborates regularly with the Family Advocacy Center Manager to review and evaluate ongoing clinical support services, trauma-informed care, agency requirements, grant requirements, trauma therapy services, clinical supervision and staff, policies and procedures, and deadlines.

Establishes and maintains appropriate and ethical therapeutic relationships.

Attends trainings, meetings, and agency events.
Master's Degree program in the field of mental health counseling.

Knowledge of evidence-based brief trauma therapy modalities (TF-CBT, EMDR, PCIT, CBT, CPT), PTSD symptoms, child sexual and physical abuse, child development, adult sexual assault, domestic violence, the criminal justice system, and advocacy centers.

Three (3) years of experience working as a mental health therapist with crime victims, including two (2) years of supervisory experience in a similar environment, is required.

Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

A valid Arizona Operator’s Driver's License or the ability to obtain one by the time of hire.

Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and a psychological exam.
Work requires the ability to read training materials, police reports, medical records, clinical records, victim impact statements, City codes, statutes, and general correspondence.

Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Work requires writing reports, letters, petitions, treatment plans, and general correspondence.

Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a group of regular employees in a work unit, including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, and realigning work as needed.

Work requires analysis and judgment to accomplish diverse duties. Work requires independent thinking within the limits of policies, standards, and precedents. Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to remain flexible and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.

This position has contact within and outside the organization to include municipalities and government agencies.

Ability to build and maintain relationships on a professional basis with diverse populations (staff, children, adults, and the community). Ability to handle crises or stressful situations.

Employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner is required.
