Crisis Counselor
Job Title: Crisis Counselor
Location: Boston, On-Site
Position Type: Full-Time
Summary of position:
The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy.
The Crisis Counselor serves as a member of the Behavioral Services Department and reports to the Director of Behavioral Services. The Crisis Counselor assists with behavior management and the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu throughout all of Manville School. Additionally, the Crisis Counselor may provide coverage for absences in the Behavioral Services Department as requested by the departmental leader.

Essential duties:
  • Helps maintain a therapeutic environment by supporting students in and out of the classroom and works proactively to prevent and reduce behavioral dysregulation.
  • Monitors students’ time out of class and facilitates completion of relevant steps for reintegration to the learning environment.
  • Completes incident reports as needed.
  • Provides crisis intervention and support as needed and/or requested by the Director of Behavioral Services, Behavioral Services Coordinators, and/or other managers and administrators.
  • Provides coverage for absences and meetings as requested by the Director of Behavioral Services, Behavioral Services Coordinators, and/or other managers and administrators.
  • Participates in the implementation of Behavior Support Plans.
  • Implements physical intervention procedures and protocols as needed.
  • Collaborates with all staff in the Behavioral Services Department in the development and implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) practices and systems.
  • Monitors and supports student transitions between activities and throughout the building.
  • Serves as member of Transportation Team facilitating arrival, dismissal, and communication of relevant information.
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health, education, or related field preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) preferred but not required.
Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience working with children/adolescents.
  • Demonstrable skills in communication, verbal de-escalation, and behavior management. Demonstrates capacity for therapeutic attunement, empathy, and creative problem solving.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of developmental, learning, multicultural, and behavioral matters.
Training:
  • Advanced training in verbal de-escalation and physical management methodologies (CPI, TCI, etc.) preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint trainings is required or ability to participate in annual training at beginning of employment and annually or as needed throughout tenure.

Salary: $26.45 - $28.85 per hour
