About This Position
Under the direction of the Director of Business & Financial Services, the Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for daily accounting functions relating to cash disbursements and financial reporting. This role will work approximately 70% in supporting Accounts Payable functions, specifically cash disbursements, and 30% in financial reporting. A typical work week may include reviewing and approving check requests, supporting with purchasing card inquiries, designating a full day to approving accounts payable batches, meeting with staff, reviewing balance sheet account reconciliations, addressing campus program inquiries, addressing other policy inquiries, and maintaining oversight of the general ledger. Responsibilities include maintaining oversight of the financial reporting and budgeting for campus program operations. The candidate will define and implement accounting and internal control procedures, maintain the chart of accounts, manage and execute periodic internal audits, coordinate external audits, and report state, federal, and other various required reports/returns. The Financial Accounting Manager will also provide leadership and knowledge in accordance with ASC policies, CSU policies, and GAAP. ASC’s policies and procedures adhere to standards which primarily rely on physical document processing.
- Assist the Director of Financial Services in producing accurate and timely statements
- Supervise three Accounts Payable staff members and one Lead Accountant
- Provide effective leadership by meeting with staff regularly for on-going coaching and mentoring
- Review weekly accounts payable batches for accuracy and posting, including regularly reviewing check requests and supporting documentation
- Prepare various account analyses, research and resolve variances on existing and future account analyses
- Responsible for reconciling the balance sheet accounts and reporting out on variances
- Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
- Review and reconcile general and subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy and compliance with the ASC policies, CSU policies, and GAAP.
- Assist in coordinating the financial audit and work with auditors to ensure the audit is completed timely
- Manage and execute periodic internal audits, including identifying and analyzing risks, planning and prioritizing the audit work, conducting audit interviews, observing operations,
- Document and analyze procedures and controls, perform audit tests, prepare appropriate work-paper, develop audit recommendations and reviewing them with appropriate management, and prepare audit reports
- Prepares and/or approves Journal entries for distribution to the general ledger
- Review and prepare annual budget reports and assist in generating reports for the Director of Financial Services and the Executive Director
- Assists in reviewing the accounting functions for campus programs
- Coordinate and review Campus Programs processes and ensures compliance with guidelines CSU and ASC regulations
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in fund accounting or financial accounting and finance
- Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience in accounting
- Previous professional experience working with senior level management
- Direct experience developing the accounting chart of accounts, acquiring accounting software and system implementation
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
EDUCATION:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field or combination of education and experience in related field.
