The Optometrist is responsible for the following:
Provides comprehensive care in the field of Optometry to patients served at PCHC in accordance with the policies and procedures and philosophy of PCHC
All duties/responsibilities are performed across the lifecycle (children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric), as applicable
Provides basic primary vision care to PCHC patients
Examines patients’ eyes to diagnose vision problems and eye diseases, and tests patients’ visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes
Prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses and provides low-vision rehabilitation when appropriate
Analyzes test results and develops a treatment plan
In strict accordance with state law and professional standards, administers drugs to patients to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems and prescribes drugs to treat some eye diseases
Assists in the diagnosis of conditions caused by systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, referring patients to other health practitioners, as needed
Refers to Ophthalmologist, as needed, to assure high quality of care
Practices in accordance with state law, statutes and professional standards
- EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Doctor of Optometry degree from four (4) year school of Optometry
- Current RI licensure as an Optometrist with prescriptive privileges, required
- Bilingual and bicultural skills preferred
- Knowledge of EHR required
- Computer skills required
