Optometrist at Providence Community Health – Providence, Rhode Island

The Optometrist is responsible for the following:
 Provides comprehensive care in the field of Optometry to patients served at PCHC in accordance with the policies and procedures and philosophy of PCHC
 All duties/responsibilities are performed across the lifecycle (children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric), as applicable
 Provides basic primary vision care to PCHC patients
 Examines patients’ eyes to diagnose vision problems and eye diseases, and tests patients’ visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes
 Prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses and provides low-vision rehabilitation when appropriate
 Analyzes test results and develops a treatment plan
 In strict accordance with state law and professional standards, administers drugs to patients to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems and prescribes drugs to treat some eye diseases
 Assists in the diagnosis of conditions caused by systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, referring patients to other health practitioners, as needed
 Refers to Ophthalmologist, as needed, to assure high quality of care
 Practices in accordance with state law, statutes and professional standards

1. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Doctor of Optometry degree from four (4) year school of Optometry
• Current RI licensure as an Optometrist with prescriptive privileges, required
• Bilingual and bicultural skills preferred
• Knowledge of EHR required
• Computer skills required
