Manager – Local Operations
Applications are invited from suitably qualified person to fill the position of Manager – Local Operations to be attached to the Home Solutions and Fixed Network Unit.
Criteria:
- University Diploma in Computer Science, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent or 5-12+ years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant telecommunications network engineering and operations experience
- Solid understanding of fiber network backhauls Planning Tools and the Site Design Process
- Strong Dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) and Submarine cable Subsystem/Optimization knowledge
Accountability Objectives
The Manager – Local Operations role is to ensure the stability and integrity of One Communications Fixed Transmission network and also its IP transmission network i.e. the Data Core. The incumbent must have knowledge of DWDM Fiber network principles, IP principles, Submarine cable infrastructure and Fiber Optic principles. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for managing and directing the operations of One Communications Data Network (Core, Access) and Transmission Teams including international Cable System operations.
Major Duties
- Collect status reports on the entire transmission network (Fixed and IP) from direct reports; discusses and analyses them with a view to planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
- Plan, Design, Optimize the Core, Access Data networks, Fixed and IP Transmission Network to ensure consistent and reliable delivery of national and international IP and Transmission services.
- Evaluate network performance including throughput speeds and leads network capacity planning to ensure delivery of services consistent with SLA commitments.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders to identify suitable and robust solutions for improved network availability and resiliency.
- Laise with internal stakeholders to implement efficient processes for automation across service platforms.
- Provide support to the Network Director – Fixed Internal Networks and Chief Technical Officer with financial management, by preparing accurate cost analysis of all development projects; forecasting accurate project completion dates as well as providing status reports, project reports, and any other periodic review materials, as required.
- Lead incumbent teams to effectively and effectively manage service delivery, service support and day to day operations of the IP Core, IP Access, National and International Transmission Teams.
- Coordinate activities connected with the installation, testing and commissioning of new equipment and services.
- Organize the team for efficient execution against goals and objectives manages the relationship between the departments.
- Prepares annual Departmental Budget - both capital and current.
- Evaluates performance of Frontline Supervisors and assesses Departmental training needs. Co-ordinates training for subordinates engaged in the installation and maintenance of new systems.
- Discuss with International Telecommunication Administrations, implementation schedules for new services, installation and commissioning. Also, discusses quality of service, elements and strategy for corrective maintenance when necessary.
- Work with the Network Operations Center (NOC), Customer Service, and other Engineers to promptly identify and use all resources to resolve any service problems.
- Develop and motivate a high caliber, team-oriented engineering and operations organization that promotes excellence and rewards results.
