Job Description
SUMMARY TheManager, Compensation and Benefits, assists with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources department. The Manager, Benefits and Compensation serves as a primary contact for benefits, leave requests to include FMLA, ADA, and parental leave, as well as compensation administration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Without exception handles all departmental information in a strictly confidential manner.
- Ensure the company is consistently delivering and administering compensation programs that are in compliance with both internal policies and government regulations.
- Responsible for designing, recommending, implementing, and maintaining an agency-wide compensation strategy that includes all FLSA statuses and levels, that embeds practices to attract, retain, and reward valued talent.
- Plan, develop, and implement new and revised compensation programs, policies, and procedures that align with HR strategies and goals.
- Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommends changes that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends, the compensation philosophy, and agency objectives.
- Able to identify, prioritize and correct pay practice issues and create communication plans regarding necessary changes.
- Audits for pay equity and compliance, such as ensuring salaries are within ranges. Ensures compliance with pay practices.
- Maintain knowledge of current regulations, industry trends, and best practices related to payroll and benefits.
- Researches and prepares compensation benchmarking position compensation models.
- Serve as a primary contact for the law school’s health and welfare programs, to include retirement plans, the benefits consultant and insurance representatives concerning employee coverage questions, changes, billings, and disputes.
- Serve as the primary contact for all leave requests, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term and long-term disability.
- Assist in the research, development, and implementation of a strategic, long-term, and sustainable wellness program. This should include mental, financial, physical wellness, and basic education on all aspects of the wellness program.
- Develop and administer compensation practices, including job evaluation and classification, range setting and salary recommendations, salary survey completion and benchmarking.
- Assist with the administration of the law school’s annual compensation review process.
- Support database and payroll integrity by performing HRIS and data entry and payroll auditing. Provide additional reporting and other ERP support as needed.
- Serves as the secondary contact for payroll related questions and concerns from employees and students.
- Serve as a back up to payroll related vendor payments, garnishments, and other third-party payments, including, 403(b), 401(a), health savings account, flex funding, and the like.
- Handle departmental compliance matters, to include ADA, FMLA, and ACA. Will serve as the primary contact for all such compliance matters.
- Banner Specialist; Compensation, and Benefits.
- Comply with all aspects of the law school’s Customer Service Standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises one to two employees within the payroll & HR department.

Service oriented with ability to make all visitors feel welcome. Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office applications with ability to learn new programs as necessary. Must be detail-oriented and flexible with job duties and responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of Human Resources experience is required.
5 years or more of relevant HRIS, payroll, benefits, compliance, and HR administration experience required. Experience implementing or configuring HR systems a plus.
Exceptional collaboration, relationship, and consultative skills with success in fostering long-term relationships and partnerships with internal teams and stakeholders.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Proficient in both spoken and written English. Ability to interpret and explain complex data as necessary. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to students, alumni, clients, and other employees of the law school.
Must possess outstanding customer service attitude and have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Knowledge of human resources, payroll, and benefits terms and processes preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic math is essential.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when department head may be out of office or unavailable. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES
PHR or SHRM-CP certificationpreferred but not required. Certified Compensation Professional, CCP, preferred but not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may required to stand and walk based on the job duties. Ability to lift up to 5lbs. is required. Lifting from floor level, at waist, and above shoulders required. Infrequent bending and stooping necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread; distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the department.

Fast paced, multi-tasking, non-smoking work environment. Must be able to work the general business schedule of the law school (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) with flexibility for extended hours as needed. Occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
