Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Python/FastAPI) in India.
This role sits at the core of a high-scale, AI-driven document processing platform focused on building intelligent and reliable backend systems for complex, compliance-heavy workflows. You will design and develop backend services that process large, multi-page documents while integrating advanced AI capabilities such as LLM-based classification and OCR pipelines. The environment is highly technical and systems-oriented, requiring strong engineering discipline to ensure scalability, auditability, and cost efficiency. You will work on asynchronous architectures, long-running workflows, and taxonomy-driven classification systems that transform unstructured data into structured insights. Collaboration spans across product, AI, and compliance teams, where engineering decisions directly impact business-critical document processing outcomes. This is a hands-on, impact-driven role for engineers who thrive in building robust backend foundations for AI-powered systems.
- You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and FastAPI, supporting high-volume document processing workflows.
- You will build and optimize document processing pipelines capable of handling large and complex PDFs, including multi-page structured extraction.
- You will implement AI-driven classification systems using taxonomy-based logic, confidence scoring, and structured labeling frameworks.
- You will integrate LLM APIs and OCR systems to support intelligent document analysis and automated classification workflows.
- You will design asynchronous processing architectures using queues, background workers, retry mechanisms, and task orchestration tools.
- You will implement auditability features such as data lineage tracking, taxonomy versioning, and explainable classification outputs.
- You will support compliance-driven workflows, including document validation, exception handling, and “needs review” pathways.
- You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and cost-optimized backend operations.
You should bring deep backend engineering expertise combined with strong systems thinking and experience building scalable, data-intensive services. You are expected to be highly hands-on with Python-based backend development and comfortable working in AI-augmented environments.
- You have 8–10 years of experience in backend engineering with strong expertise in Python and FastAPI.
- You have experience building scalable systems involving document processing, workflows, or data-intensive pipelines.
- You have hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs for classification, extraction, or structured data generation tasks.
- You are experienced with PDF processing tools such as PyPDF2, pdf2image, or equivalent libraries.
- You have strong knowledge of asynchronous systems, including queues, background workers, retries, and job orchestration.
- You have experience working with Google Cloud Platform services such as Cloud Storage, Firestore, and Cloud Tasks.
- You understand system design principles including scalability, reliability, error handling, and performance optimization.
- You have experience working with OCR systems and document intelligence workflows.
- You are skilled in designing taxonomies, classification schemas, and rule-based validation systems.
- You bring strong analytical thinking, debugging ability, and ownership mindset in complex backend environments.
- Competitive compensation based on approved working hours
- Fully remote work arrangement
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI-driven backend and document intelligence systems
- Exposure to large-scale, compliance-oriented engineering challenges
- Collaborative and fast-paced engineering environment
- Work on modern AI integrations including LLM-powered workflows
- High ownership role with impact on core platform architecture and business processes.
