POSITION SUMMARY
  • Reports To:
    • Director of Dietary
  • Summary:
    • Employee is primarily responsible for supplying food services to hospital employees and guests. Job duties include monetary transaction, taking food temperatures, giving out food portions, and preparing the cafeteria for daily services. Prepares hot and cold food for patients, catering, cafeteria customers and meals prepared by DCMH to be served outside the hospital, efficiently and following standardized recipes, portion control and following ISDH guidelines.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Education
    • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Experience
    • One to two years of related experience
  • Computer Skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.

  • Other Requirements
    • Employees should be proficient within 3 months of the hire date. This position requires frequent standing, use of your hands and fingers, reaching out, lifting and carrying 0–100 lbs and pushing and pulling 0–40 lbs.
  • Essential Functions
    • Prepares hot and cold food for patients, catering, cafeteria customers and meals prepared by DCMH to be served outside the hospital, efficiently and following standardized recipes, portion control and following ISDH guidelines.
    • Monitor and records food and equipment temperatures on temperature logs. Completes a daily cleaning schedule, performs basic preventative maintenance of kitchen equipment and rotates and stores food properly.
    • Use proper techniques when thawing food for future preparation, cooling and reheating previous prepared foods.
    • Keeps work areas stocked with supplies needed. This includes food for purchase, all supplies such as disposables, office supplies, gloves, hairnets and other utensils needed to perform your job.
    • Pulls appropriate supplies for the following day from storage outside of the kitchen. This includes dishes needed for caterings and food from the basement freezer and dry storage. Returns stock to these areas when it is not needed in the kitchen to ensure proper rotation of product.
    • Runs the cash register and handles money transactions for those paying for food. Makes daily deposits to cashiers and records it in department records.
    • Receives patient information, prepares menus, visits each patient to obtain menu preferences, updates department records, prepares production sheets and coordinates with other staff to ensure accurate food preparation according to diet order.
    • Reviews menu and diet orders, calculates menus to ensure therapeutic diet guidelines are met, prepares extra nourishments as needed, and participates in tray assembly to ensure guidelines are met.
    • Communicates closely with clinical staff to ensure proper diet education and any additional needs are met.
    • Works with other staff to maintain a clean, safe and pleasant work environment and follows ISDH guidelines. This includes keeping the area clean from clutter as well as changing out product as needed.
    • Stay current with hospital activities by checking e-mail, performance manager, and policy manager often and attending hospital meetings as scheduled.
