Job Description
Location: Lakeland / Lake Park, Florida (~40% U.S. field travel)
Meta Power Solutions, a leading provider of power solutions based in Lakeland, Florida, is seeking a skilled and experienced Sr. Lead Field Service Technician to lead our transformer refurbishment operations while also servicing transformers and switchgear in the field across the U.S. This role is centered on the refurbishment, restoration, and reconditioning of oil-based medium- and high-voltage transformers, with the successful candidate leading our refurbishing department at the Lake Park, FL shop and serving as the go-to technical authority on transformer teardown, rebuild, and quality certification.
The ideal candidate holds a valid NETA Level 3 certification, has 10+ years of field and shop experience with oil-filled transformers, and has hands-on expertise specifically in full-unit refurbishment — from incoming inspection and teardown through core/coil rebuild, tank and radiator restoration, oil processing, and final acceptance testing. This position is primarily shop-based, with approximately 60% of time leading refurbishment work at the Lake Park facility and 40% traveling to customer sites for field service, diagnostics, and installation support.
Responsibilities
Lead the Transformer Refurbishing Department at the Lake Park facility, overseeing the full refurbishment lifecycle: intake inspection, teardown, core and coil rebuild/repair, tank and bushing restoration, oil filtration/reprocessing, reassembly, and final QA testing.
Establish and enforce refurbishment standards, work instructions, and quality checkpoints to ensure every rebuilt unit meets or exceeds OEM performance specifications.
Perform diagnostic testing (e.g., DGA review, insulation resistance, power factor, turns ratio, winding resistance) to assess incoming units and validate refurbished units before ship.
Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of oil-based transformers in medium- and high-voltage systems, both in the shop and in the field.
Mentor and direct a small team of technicians in refurbishment best practices, safety protocols, and quality standards.
Collaborate with engineering and operations to scope refurbishment jobs, estimate timelines, and ensure on-time completion of rebuild and installation projects.
Travel to client sites as needed for field service, installations, and on-site diagnostics — approximately 40% travel (travel expenses covered by the company).
Maintain accurate documentation of all refurbishment work — inspection reports, test data, rebuild logs, and equipment history records.
Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols during shop and field work.
Provide technical guidance to customers on transformer operation, maintenance, and refurbishment best practices.
Requirements
NETA Level 2 Certification required; NETA Level 3 desirable.
10+ years of proven experience with oil-based transformer systems, with specific hands-on experience in transformer refurbishment/rebuild (teardown, core/coil work, tank restoration, oil processing, and retesting) across Medium Voltage and High Voltage equipment.
Demonstrated ability to lead a refurbishment shop or service team, including work planning and quality oversight.
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and components associated with medium- and high-voltage transformers.
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with DGA, insulation resistance, power factor, and turns ratio testing.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with clients, engineering, and shop teams.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities across shop and field work, and travel approximately 40% of the time for service projects.
Valid driver's license.
Additional certification or formal training in transformer rebuild/refurbishment is a strong plus.
Benefits
Competitive hourly pay commensurate with experience.
Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance and paid time off.
401(k) retirement plan.
Opportunity for career growth and professional development within a dynamic and innovative company.
