JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the accounting function through the preparation, analysis, and maintenance of financial records. The Staff Accountant performs general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and assists with the monthly close process while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This individual works independently on assigned responsibilities and collaborates with other departments to support efficient and accurate financial operations.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger with accuracy and timeliness.
- Perform monthly and periodic account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, including preparation of supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues and communicate findings to leadership.
- Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and schedules.
- Support audits by gathering documentation, preparing schedules, and responding to requests.
- Review and verify accuracy of financial transactions and supporting documentation.
- Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and related reporting.
- Participate in process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper coding, documentation, and financial reporting.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical records for accounting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all company financial matters.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work environment as applicable.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and accounting systems. Occasional interaction with plant operations may be required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands for this position are primarily sedentary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently sit, stand, and walk.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Base hours are Monday through Friday, with additional hours required during peak periods such as month-end and year-end close.
Travel
Minimal travel may be required for this position.
Required Education, Experience & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
Preferred Education, Experience & Certifications
- Two to five years of accounting experience
- Experience in a manufacturing or food production environment
- Experience with ERP systems
- Knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
