Job Description

  • Position Summary
    • As prescribed by a physician, the EEG Technologist is involved in the following diagnostic procedures: electroencephalography (EEG), long term monitoring (LTM), and nerve conduction studies (NCS). Responsibilities include following established standards: operating, troubleshooting and ensuring equipment is performing accurately; preparing electronic and written reports required to document all procedures and results; scheduling; performing other related patient care responsibilities to facilitate optimal patient care.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Work Experience
      • Previous experience in Neurodiagnostic procedures which may include EEG, NCS and/or polysomnography (PSG) strongly preferred.

    • Education
      • Completion of a Respiratory program, CAAHEP accredited or ABRET recognized program, Registered Polysomnographic Technologist Certificate, Associate’s degree, (OR) equivalent EEG experience required. Current enrollment in an Associate’s degree program may serve in lieu of the education requirement; completion of the minimum education requirement is required within 2 years of hire or placement. Employees hired or placed in the EEG Technologist position prior to 5/1/2017 are considered grandfathered into the position and the education requirements do not apply.

  • Job Specific Performance Standards
    • The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time.
      • Understands and employs the optimal use of various types of Neurodiagnostic equipment.
      • Organizes and schedules procedures.
      • Prepares electronic and written reports required to document all procedures and test reports.
      • Orders supplies as needed.
      • Utilizes hospital computer system to access patient information and enter charges accurately.
      • Maintains records needed for JCAHO compliance.
      • Maintains assigned areas in a neat and orderly fashion. Participates in processing, cleaning, changing, and sterilization of Neurodiagnostic equipment.
      • Calibrates equipment prior to patient testing. Troubleshoots equipment and recognizes neurological abnormalities such as seizure activity during an EEG test or focal slowing, and correlates brain mapping accordingly.
