Job Description

Lone Mountain Ranch

For more than 100 years, Lone Mountain Ranch has welcomed guests to beautiful Big Sky, Montana. Set on 148 acres just minutes from Yellowstone National Park, the Ranch is known for authentic Western hospitality, exceptional dining, outdoor adventures, and unforgettable guest experiences.

The beauty of the Ranch may be what guests remember first, but it's the people who create the experiences they remember most. Together, we take pride in caring for this special place—preserving its history, stewarding its natural surroundings, and creating meaningful experiences for every guest who visits.

Whether you're welcoming guests, preparing memorable meals, caring for our historic property, or supporting operations behind the scenes, every role contributes to creating unforgettable experiences while helping shape the next chapter of Lone Mountain Ranch's legacy.

Help Shape the Business Behind the Experience

Exceptional hospitality depends on more than what happens in front of the guest. Behind it is a strong operation, thoughtful financial leadership, and people who understand how all the pieces fit together.

As our Director of Finance & Purchasing, you'll serve as the primary on-property financial and administrative leader for Lone Mountain Ranch. You'll work closely with the General Manager and leaders across the Ranch to provide the financial insight, systems, purchasing support, and operational guidance they need to make sound decisions.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can move comfortably between the big picture and the details—building a budget one day, working through a purchasing challenge with a department leader the next, and continually looking for smarter ways to support the operation.

What You'll Do
  • Lead day-to-day financial and accounting operations, ensuring accurate records, reporting, and strong internal controls.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and financial analysis.
  • Partner with the General Manager and department leaders to provide financial insight and support sound business decisions.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end processes with the corporate accounting team.
  • Lead Ranch-wide purchasing, vendor relationships, pricing negotiations, and significant operational and capital purchases.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receiving, and inventory coordination.
  • Manage key business records, including contracts, licenses, permits, and insurance documentation.
  • Coordinate technology needs and serve as the primary liaison with external IT providers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, increase efficiency, and responsibly manage costs.
Who Thrives Here

You're someone who sees finance as part of the operation, not separate from it. You understand the numbers, but you also want to understand what's happening behind them.

You're highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented while still being able to step back and see the larger business picture. You communicate financial information in a way that helps other leaders understand it and use it, and you're comfortable asking questions, solving problems, and working across departments.

You take ownership, follow through, and notice when a process could work better. Most importantly, you're collaborative. You understand that strong financial leadership isn't just about controlling costs—it's about helping the entire operation make thoughtful decisions and succeed together.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, purchasing, business operations, or a related field, including leadership responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with accounts payable, purchasing, and vendor management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial management software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Hospitality, resort, or property management experience preferred.
  • Experience with Rippling, Sage Intacct, or comparable systems preferred.
Why Join Lone Mountain Ranch?

At Lone Mountain Ranch, you'll work alongside people who care deeply about what they do, take pride in doing things well, and understand that every role contributes to the guest experience.

We value people who take ownership, collaborate across departments, lead by example, and are willing to step in where they're needed. Here, your work has a visible impact—not only on the day-to-day operation, but on the people, experiences, and future of the Ranch.

If you're looking for an opportunity to bring your expertise to a place where thoughtful leadership, craftsmanship, and genuine hospitality matter, we'd love to hear from you.
