Job Description
Description:
Position Summary
The Terrain Park Supervisor directs daily terrain-park operations within delegated authority. The supervisor organizes staffing and work, confirms inspection and documentation practices, coordinates feature construction and maintenance, and makes or escalates opening, modification, and closure recommendations under company policy. This role requires visible field leadership and does not replace any authority reserved to mountain management, patrol, risk, or other designated functions.
Essential Leadership & Operational Duties
- Lead daily briefings, assign work, confirm staffing coverage, communicate hazards and priorities, and adjust the plan for weather, snow conditions, guest traffic, equipment availability, and business needs.
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate crew members.
- Oversee construction, shaping, testing, maintenance, marking, and closure of jumps, rails, boxes, snow features, entrances, exits, fencing, signage, and related park infrastructure.
- Verify that scheduled opening, operating, and closing inspections are completed by qualified personnel.
- Develop daily and weekly maintenance plans, track labor and materials, coordinate grooming and snowmaking requests, and communicate operational status to patrol, lift operations, events, guest services, and management.
- Ensure equipment pre-use inspections, lockout/tagout or energy-control practices where applicable, safe transport, tool accountability, and timely removal of defective equipment from service.
- Lead incident and near-miss response within training and authority; preserve relevant facts, complete required reports, and participate in follow-up reviews without assigning blame or making unauthorized statements.
- Support hiring, onboarding, skills verification, refresher training, scheduling, timekeeping, and supply planning.
- Monitor guest behavior and park flow, provide clear education, and coordinate enforcement or emergency support with the appropriate department.
- Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, applicable laws, manufacturer instructions, and site-specific risk controls.
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, injuries, equipment damage, and guest concerns promptly and accurately.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two seasons of terrain-park, grooming, snow-surface, mountain operations, construction, or closely related experience, including demonstrated feature maintenance responsibilities.
- At least one season of lead or supervisory experience, or equivalent evidence of directing crews and making field decisions.
- Ability to interpret operating procedures, feature plans, inspection criteria, weather information, and equipment guidance and translate them into clear crew assignments.
- Strong written documentation, radio communication, conflict-management, and guest-service skills.
- Current first aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain it within [time period].
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record if driving is an assigned essential function.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with snowcats, winch operations, snowmaking, welding/fabrication, rigging, hand and power tools, or feature design, with required employer authorization and credentials.
- Formal leadership, risk-management, avalanche-awareness, incident-command, or terrain-park operations training relevant to the site.
- Proficiency with digital inspection, scheduling, maintenance, or workforce-management systems.
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Work for extended periods on snow and ice in cold, wind, precipitation, low visibility, darkness, noise, vibration, and high elevation.
- Regularly ski or snowboard, hike, climb, kneel, bend, grip tools, and maintain balance on steep or uneven surfaces at the proficiency level required to access assigned work zones.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier or awkward materials with team or mechanical assistance.
- Work near moving grooming equipment, snowmaking systems, lifts, tools, features, and guests while wearing required PPE.
