Job Description
Description:
Mercy Home for Children provides comprehensive care to individuals with developmental disabilities and we are hiring for a DSP position in the Brooklyn location. It is a 1 to 1 full-time position from 8-3 PM.
Requirements:- Ability to read, write and properly record for behavior and goal programs accurately as outlined in the consumer plans.
- High School Diploma or a GED
- Valid & Unrestricted N.Y.S. Driver’s License.
- Acquire and maintain all appropriate certifications necessary for the position through internal training such as SCIP-R, AMAP, First Aid and CPR.
- Must be creative, enthusiastic, highly motivated and have a positive attitude.
- Support consumers through teaching them to be the most independent in their self-help-skills, to include bathing, dressing, cooking, eating, housekeeping, laundry, and toileting. Assisting the consumer to strengthen and develop communication and socialization skills.
- To be fully aware of the goals/outcomes of each person you are working with, and consistently and conscientiously work to achieve individualized valued outcomes.
- To record daily on required consumer goals, baselines, logs (including medical charts) and other reports as instructed (incident reports, as necessary).
- To assist and develop fine motor coordination, and gross motor skills through various activities and exercises.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of consumers at all times, at home and in the community.
- Encourage various modes of communication that support the development of meaningful relationships including the modeling of appropriate behavior to persons served and community involvement and inclusion.
- Implement daily schedules, including all routines and life skills activities as directed by a supervisor or written in the plan.
- Ability to encourage self-advocacy or to advocate as needed for the consumers.
- Ensure client health and safety, while assisting residents to achieve increased independence.
- Perform job-related tasks as assigned, to include attendance and participation at meetings and training as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
