Job Description

Staff Software Engineer - DevOps/SRE

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer - DevOps/SRE based in India.

Join a high-impact engineering organization building the internal developer platform that enables teams to deliver software faster, more securely, and with greater consistency.
In this role, you will design and maintain the infrastructure, automation, tooling, and paved roads that support modern software delivery at scale.
You will work across AWS cloud infrastructure, networking, Kubernetes, security, observability, CI/CD, and developer experience.
Your work will help engineering teams access reliable self-service capabilities while reducing manual effort and operational complexity.
You will contribute to platform architecture and engineering standards using infrastructure-as-code and GitOps principles.
The role offers broad technical ownership and the opportunity to influence how development teams build, deploy, monitor, and operate applications.
You will work in a collaborative environment where reliability, automation, security, and continuous improvement are central to the engineering culture.

Accountabilities:
  • Internal developer platform: Build and maintain paved-road templates and golden paths within a Backstage-based Internal Developer Platform, enabling engineering teams to provision and use standardized capabilities efficiently.
  • Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure: Provision, configure, and operate Amazon EKS clusters across development, staging, and production environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and operational consistency.
  • AWS networking: Design and manage cloud networking components, including VPCs, CIDR allocation, VPC peering, Transit Gateway, and site-to-site VPN connectivity.
  • Network security: Support Central Inspection Hub onboarding and implement secure egress controls to strengthen cloud network security and governance.
  • Observability: Build and operate comprehensive observability capabilities across metrics, logs, and traces using technologies such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, and OpenSearch.
  • CI/CD and GitOps: Develop and maintain automated delivery pipelines and GitOps workflows using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and Kargo to improve deployment consistency and engineering velocity.
  • Infrastructure as code: Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform or OpenTofu, applying infrastructure-as-code and GitOps principles to minimize manual processes.
  • Platform reliability: Establish and maintain reliable, repeatable engineering patterns that improve application delivery, infrastructure operations, system visibility, and developer productivity.
  • Cross-functional engineering: Work effectively across cloud infrastructure, networking, security, platform engineering, and developer experience to deliver integrated solutions and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to eliminate operational friction, strengthen automation, improve platform capabilities, and establish scalable engineering practices.
Requirements
  • Cloud networking expertise: Strong hands-on experience with AWS networking, including VPC architecture, CIDR allocation, VPC peering, Transit Gateway, and site-to-site VPNs.
  • Kubernetes administration: Strong experience managing Kubernetes environments, including cluster administration, RBAC, pod identity, and Amazon EKS.
  • Internal developer platforms: Experience building or contributing to an Internal Developer Platform, with hands-on Backstage experience strongly preferred.
  • Infrastructure as code and GitOps: Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices, with a proven focus on automation, repeatability, and eliminating manual operational work.
  • CI/CD experience: Practical experience designing or maintaining modern CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows, particularly in cloud-native environments.
  • Observability: Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, or OpenSearch is highly valuable.
  • Security and identity: Understanding of cloud security, access management, SSO, identity providers, OIDC, and modern identity and access management patterns is preferred.
  • Platform engineering mindset: Ability to work across infrastructure, security, networking, Kubernetes, and developer experience while maintaining a strong focus on reliability and usability.
  • Service mesh knowledge: Experience with technologies such as Istio or Envoy is an advantage.
  • Backstage development: Experience developing Backstage plugins or extending Internal Developer Platform capabilities is preferred.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose complex infrastructure and platform issues and develop durable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with software engineers and technical stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
Benefits
  • Remote flexibility: Work fully remotely from India while collaborating with distributed engineering teams.
  • Staff-level technical impact: Take ownership of foundational infrastructure and platform capabilities that directly influence engineering productivity and software delivery.
  • Cloud-native technology: Work extensively with AWS, EKS, Kubernetes, GitOps, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, observability, and modern developer platform technologies.
  • Platform engineering exposure: Help shape internal developer experiences through Backstage, golden paths, self-service tooling, and standardized engineering workflows.
  • Broad technical scope: Gain exposure across cloud networking, security, identity, infrastructure, deployment automation, monitoring, and developer experience.
  • Automation-focused environment: Apply modern engineering practices to reduce manual operations, improve reliability, and create scalable, repeatable solutions.
  • Professional growth: Develop deeper expertise in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, Kubernetes, AWS, GitOps, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Collaborative culture: Work alongside engineering and technology professionals across multiple technical disciplines on complex, high-impact initiatives.
  • Compensation: Salary and total compensation details are subject to the applicable employment terms for the position.
