Job Description
The purpose of this position is to coordinate and monitor youth and adult sports/recreation programs and activities. Assists with day-to-day operations of parks and facilities.
Essential Job Functions:
• Oversees, implements and organizes recreational programs and assists with day-to-
day operations of the parks and facilities of the department.
• Monitors daily operations, maintenance, and use of the facility by staff, public, and
other community organizations.
• Monitors and recommends additional youth and adult programs.
• Monitors, trains schedules and evaluates part-time and seasonal staff to ensure the effective, safe and efficient operations of the recreational programs and special events. Provides guidance and oversight to staff, ensuing compliance with departmental policies, procedures, safety standards and customer service expectations.
• Responds to inquiries from citizens and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate personnel.
• Accepts and verifies payments for programs and forwards to Program Coordinator II/Adv Admin.
• Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed to oversee and support recreational programs, parks, facilities, special events and related operations.
• Assists with the operation of community outreach events.
• Assists in maintaining fields, operate small power equipment such as mowers and snowplows.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum qualifications):
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Vocational or technical training with one year of customer service, administration or
related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education training and
experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
• Microsoft knowledge (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, etc.)
• Operational knowledge of hand tools, power tools, mowers, snowplows and
miscellaneous grounds equipment.
Physical requirements and working environment:
• Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a
computer, copier, telephone, and communications equipment. Must be able to use
body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires
walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting twenty pounds, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten
pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for
light work.
• Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various
environments.
Other:
• May be required to work on religious holidays.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Must work cooperatively with others.
• When position requires vehicle operation, responsible for the safety,
readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by Dorchester’s safe driving policy.
