About the role
GEL Laboratories, LLC, a member of The GEL Group, Inc., has an opening for a Sample Support Intern focused on preparing sample collection kits and returning client supplies at the laboratory in Charleston, South Carolina.
This position focuses on following procedures describing how to properly prepare sample shipments to clients in support of environmental compliance programs for water, soil, and hazardous waste samples.
This entry-level role necessitates strong attention to detail, proven ability to work both quickly and efficiently in a warehouse atmosphere, and the ability to work within a team structure.
What you'll do
- Prepares sample shipments based on orders from system, prints appropriate documents, and communicates with department and other staff regarding these orders.
- Supports archiving and staging of samples in active storage locations.
- Keeps work area clean and organized.
- Demonstrates and supports core values.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be able to work in hot and cold warehouse environment.
- Must possess strong multi-tasking ability.
- Satisfy test results as part of GEL’s drug-free workplace policy and pre-employment screening requirements.
- Preference will be given to local candidates.
Working Environment & Physical Demands
This position requires working in a busy production laboratory, safely handling and storing RAD Safety-controlled material and samples. Safety is a priority, and negligence is not tolerated. Safety equipment is provided, and use is mandatory.
The physical demands outlined in this job posting are representative of those that are required for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Precise hand/eye coordination and finger/hand manipulation.
- Potential exposure to chemicals and to hazardous and/or radioactive materials.
- Use of office and laboratory equipment and stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
