This is a senior client leadership role within a fast-paced medical communications environment, responsible for shaping and managing high-value strategic relationships across key life sciences accounts. The position blends scientific understanding, commercial ownership, and operational oversight to ensure successful delivery of complex medical publications and communications programs. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders while guiding internal cross-functional teams across scientific, creative, and project management functions. The role carries full accountability for account performance, growth, and client satisfaction, with a strong emphasis on strategic thinking and execution excellence. You will oversee multi-stream projects spanning publications, congress activities, advisory boards, and omnichannel medical education initiatives. Operating with high autonomy, you will influence both client strategy and internal delivery standards while ensuring compliance and scientific integrity. In this role, you will be responsible for leading end-to-end client engagement across assigned accounts, ensuring both strategic alignment and operational excellence. You will serve as the primary client contact and trusted advisor, guiding long-term relationships with senior stakeholders and driving account growth. Your responsibilities include:
- Leading strategic client partnerships, ensuring alignment between medical communication strategies and brand/scientific objectives
- Overseeing the development and execution of medical communications deliverables including publications, congress strategy, advisory boards, speaker programs, MSL materials, and omnichannel initiatives
- Driving account growth by identifying new opportunities, expanding existing engagements, and achieving revenue and profitability targets
- Managing financial performance including forecasting, budgeting, margin tracking, SOW development, and account reconciliation
- Coordinating cross-functional teams across scientific, creative, and project management functions to ensure high-quality, compliant, and timely delivery
- Leading client meetings, governance rhythms, and ongoing communication to ensure transparency and satisfaction
- Ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal SOPs, including PhRMA and Open Payments guidelines
- Coaching and developing junior team members to strengthen account delivery and leadership capability
This role requires extensive experience in medical communications or life sciences consulting, combined with strong client leadership and commercial acumen. The ideal candidate is both strategically minded and execution-focused, with the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- 8–10+ years of experience in medical communications, medical education, pharmaceutical marketing, or a related life sciences field
- Strong understanding of therapeutic areas, clinical development, and the broader pharmaceutical landscape
- Proven experience in strategic account leadership, including publications planning and medical communication strategy development
- Advanced financial management skills, including forecasting, budgeting, SOW creation, and profitability oversight
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with executive-level client presence
- Strong leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management of teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with project or account management tools
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, life sciences, marketing, or a related field (advanced degree considered an asset)
