Description:

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for promoting the game of golf and representing the Club with professionalism and enthusiasm while overseeing all golf operations, activities, and related business functions. This role develops and supports comprehensive instructional programs for players of all ages and skill levels and regularly engages with members on the course to foster relationships and encourage participation. Maintaining a highly visible and approachable presence with members and guests is essential to creating an exceptional and welcoming golf experience.

Requirements:
  • Organize and conduct club tournaments and related events.
  • Promote golf tournament participation.
  • Interprets and enforces club policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Conduct quarterly employee reviews.
  • Oversee all golf operations.
  • Proficient in operating North Star, GHIN and GOLF GENIUS.
  • Train all staff members in all areas, including policy, procedures and service.
  • Assist with preparing golf budgets and takes corrective action to assure that budget goals are attained.
  • Overseas scheduling staff hours to assure that members are fully served, and labor costs are maintained; periodically checks timecards for adherence to posted schedule.
  • Assist with merchandiser in buying professional shop merchandise.
  • Communicates with golf course superintendent daily regarding maintenance issues.
  • Conduct staff meetings to ensure that goals and policies are being carried out.
  • Reports to and meets with Director of Golf on daily basis.
  • Interprets and enforces “The USGA Rules of Golf”.
  • Oversee daily merchandising.
  • Generate interest in selling merchandise.
  • Assist in hiring and firing off all golf staff employees.
  • Maintains attractive, orderly appearance at all times.
  • Enforce the By-laws governing play.
  • Supervises the work of all assistant golf professionals.
  • Oversee outside operations supervisor.
  • Responsible for Professional Shop schedule.
  • Represents the club in local and national PGA of America golf tournaments.
  • Provide golf lessons to members and guests of all skill levels.
  • Communicate with Food and Beverage Manager, Catering Director and Grill Room Manager regarding any food and beverage needs.
  • Provides golf-related information for the club’s newsletter and website.
  • Assist with selecting prizes for all golf related tournaments and events.
  • Ensures that the work environment is safe for all golf staff employees and meets OSHA standards.
  • Overseas the tee time reservations to ensure that club rules and policies are being met.
  • Approves hours worked by all golf staff employees on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Approves all vacation time for golf staff employees.
  • Maintain “Class A” status with the PGA of America at all times.
  • Meet with various golf club manufacture representatives to order all clubs and hard-goods for the professional shop.
  • Oversee and organize all charity outings that the club may host.
  • Ensure that all emails are being answered in a timely manner.
  • Interact with members and guests.
  • Oversee and approve all invoices.

Education: College Degree required. Class “A” member in good standing of the Professional Golf Association of America.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Head Golf Professional or First Assistant in a private or resort golf club.

Skills: Strong leadership, management, communication, and organizational skills are necessary. The ability to interact with a diverse customer base is essential. The ability to resolve problems and effectively determine a proper course of action for the organization is required. Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills, as well as a professional image are required.

Equipment to be used:

Microsoft’s Office Suite, and Internet; Tee time management system; Handicap monitoring and reporting software; Video equipment for teaching purposes.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office, retail, and sports equipment. Requires ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time. Requires bending, stooping, and reaching. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Requires ability to lift and move heavy tables, chairs and other objects. Requires ability to function professionally in an environment that is both physically and mentally stressful and challenging.
