Industrial Wet Coating Trainee - Swing in West Jordan, Utah at Quality Electrical Systems

Position Summary
The Wet Coating Trainee at QES is an entry-level position designed to provide hands-on training in industrial wet coating processes. Under the guidance of experienced Wet Coating Technicians and Supervisors, the trainee will learn proper surface preparation, coating application methods, safety protocols, and quality standards. This role is intended for individuals seeking to build foundational skills in industrial painting while contributing to a team-oriented production environment.

Monday through Friday 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Key Responsibilities
• Assist in preparing metal surfaces (masking, sanding, and cleaning) to ensure proper coating adhesion.
• Shadow experienced technicians to learn HVLP and airless spray applications.
• Support setup of coating booths, equipment, and materials before production runs.
• Participate in daily team huddles and follow shift goals under supervision.
• Learn how to use wet film gauges, viscosity cups, and other basic inspection tools.
• Help maintain 5S standards in work areas (cleaning, organizing tools, and safe storage).
• Clean and maintain basic tools and equipment after use.
• Follow all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and hazardous material handling.
• Document training progress and actively seek feedback from trainers and supervisors.

Qualifications
• No prior coating experience required; previous experience in manufacturing, automotive, or construction is a plus.
• Willingness to learn and follow instructions closely.
• Ability to work safely with coatings, solvents, and cleaning chemicals (PPE provided).
• Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and communication skills.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive tasks.
