Primary Purpose of Position:

VPCL is seeking a reliable and experienced AZ Driver, who is capable of operating vehicles with manual transmission. The ideal candidate will have a clean driving abstract and a commitment to safety standards, including the ability to provide their abstract and Certificate of Recognition (COR).

Job Duties

  • Operate AZ-class vehicles equipped with manual transmission to transport heavy equipment to project sites throughout the GTA and the Province.
  • Safely load and unload heavy machinery, ensuring proper securing and balance for transportation.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and equipment, addressing any maintenance needs promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations throughout transportation activities.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and site personnel to coordinate pick-up, delivery, and any logistical details.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation and environmental regulations.
  • Driving logs are required daily via smart phone or tablet.

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid AZ driver’s license with a clean driving abstract and experience operating manual transmission vehicles.
  • Excellent driving record and commitment to safe driving practices.
  • Class 1 air brakes with at least 5 years' experience.
  • Proven experience in transporting heavy equipment, demonstrating proficiency in loading, securing, and unloading machinery.
  • End dump experience would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • As per the Ministry of Transportation, commercial vehicle operators are required to record driving logs every day, according to the legislation.
  • Flexibility regarding work hours, including weekends and overtime as required.

Work Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots,
  • Overtime as required.
