This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Development PNW based in the United States.
This role is responsible for leading the full lifecycle development of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects across the Pacific Northwest region, from early greenfield origination through Notice to Proceed for construction. You will own the coordination of complex, multi-stakeholder development efforts spanning permitting, interconnection, real estate, environmental review, and power purchase agreements. The position requires a strong balance of strategic oversight and hands-on execution, ensuring projects move efficiently through each stage of the development pipeline. You will work closely with internal engineering, finance, legal, and origination teams, as well as external partners such as utilities, landowners, regulators, and offtakers. This is a high-impact leadership role at the center of large-scale renewable energy expansion in the U.S. You will also play a key role in protecting project economics, mitigating risk, and ensuring alignment with financial and construction readiness goals. The environment is fast-moving, highly collaborative, and mission-driven, with significant visibility at the executive level.
- Lead end-to-end development of utility-scale solar and storage projects in the Pacific Northwest, managing all phases from greenfield origination through Notice to Proceed readiness for construction.
- Build and maintain detailed project schedules and development budgets, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders to deliver key milestones on time and within financial targets.
- Manage relationships with landowners, utilities, permitting agencies, regulators, and offtakers, ensuring alignment across the full project lifecycle.
- Oversee permitting strategy and execution, including preparation and submission of regulatory documentation for solar and storage development projects.
- Direct third-party consultants, contractors, and legal partners to complete due diligence, title curative work, environmental studies, and real estate agreements.
- Support project finance readiness by evaluating project economics, protecting financial outcomes, and ensuring alignment with investment assumptions and models.
- Conduct risk assessments and due diligence for potential development or acquisition opportunities, providing recommendations to business development and leadership teams.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, legal, finance, and origination teams to ensure seamless execution across development workstreams.
- 8+ years of experience leading utility-scale renewable energy development projects from greenfield through late-stage development or construction readiness.
- Proven track record in solar and/or energy storage project development, ideally within the defined regional market.
- Strong expertise in project management across complex, multi-stakeholder environments with competing priorities and dependencies.
- Deep understanding of power markets, interconnection processes, permitting, land acquisition, and project financing requirements.
- Experience negotiating complex agreements including land use, procurement, and development-related contracts with external partners and vendors.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to assess project feasibility, evaluate risk, and align development decisions with financial outcomes.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills across technical, legal, regulatory, and executive stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance, economics, or a related field is required.
