Student Engineer (Student Engineer 4, Student Engineer 5, Student Engineer 6)

Work Schedule: This is a student, part-time position; up to 20 hours per week; non-exempt position. This position is not eligible for benefits. This is a temporary appointment expiring on or before June 30, 2027, contingent upon the availability of funds.
Position Overview: Under the direct supervision of Michael Thorburn, the incumbent will perform various technical and documentation tasks in support of the Boeing Strategic Contract Task Order, as part of the Boeing Supplier Purchase Services Program – Univ Alabama Huntsville Subcontract. (Boeing SPSP/UAHS)
Essential functions: The incumbent will be responsible for the completion of tasks defined in the Boeing Strategic Contract Task Order and . Duties include but are not limited to:
- Perform engineering tasks, some examples of which follow. (It is not expected that a candidate has mastered all the following skills.)
- Electrical CAD (schematics, wiring diagrams)
- Mechanical CAD (AutoCAD)
- Layout/Schematic (PCB Layout, Electrical Schematic, Xpedition ECAD)
- Solid Modeling (SolidWorks, Onshape)
- Analysis Tools (MATLAB, FEA modeling)
- Simulation Tools (Spice, Simulink, Simscape Multibody)
- Programming (python, C, C++)
Advanced Skills of Particular Value and Importance:
The following skills are not required but are of value and importance.
- Prototype construction and testing
- Engineering product environmental testing
- Engineering product performance testing
Note: Job duties do not involve handling level 1 data.
Requirements:
The incumbent must be a student currently attending Cal State L.A. A completed Student Employment Application is required along with proof of course schedule to determine enrollment status. The incumbent must have the right to work in the USA. The incumbent must be able travel to and from the worksite at the Boeing facility in El Segundo. The incumbent must have strong computer skills and pay attention to detail. The incumbent must have working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and proofreading; some writing and editing skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to complete tasks without prompting. The incumbent must also demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/ multiethnic environment.
The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
