Job Description

Position Title: Assistant / Associate / Full Professor

Serve as a Principal Faculty member of the PA Studies Hybrid Program through the following duties, as assigned by the Program Director:

  • Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the Program
  • Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program
  • Providing or contributing to student instruction the basic sciences, history and physical, and other courses as assigned by the Program Director
  • Evaluating student performance
  • Academic counseling of students
  • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction
  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum
  • Evaluating the Program
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director
  • Teaching responsibilities are to the didactic year only and include PAS 2401 Introduction to the PA Profession (spring), History Taking and Physical Examination I and Lab (summer), and History Taking and Physical Examination II and Lab (fall)
  • In person requirements include immersions (currently spring and fall), as well as commencement, and ARC-PA on site visits, and other visits as required

Required Programmatic Role: Director of Curriculum

  • Job Description: The position of the Director of Curriculum manages the development, maintenance, and evaluation of the entire program curriculum, manages the curriculum review process, and maintains curriculum compliance with the ARC-PA standards.
  • Job Duties: The director is responsible for curriculum management, new program development, curriculum additions and revisions, ARC curriculum compliance, individual course assessment and program curriculum assessment. The director will also serve as the Curriculum committee's Chair in the hybrid program.

Principle duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with SHRS Office of Digital and Continuing Education (ODCE)
  • Provide direction, leadership and advice to faculty, staff and administrators on design, implementation and maintenance of the curriculum processes focused on program learning outcomes
  • Supervise the development of curriculum plans by consulting with instructional faculty and administrative staff as needed.
  • Provide direction to faculty, staff and administrators in gathering and storing curriculum data on the OneDrive.
  • Develop and deploy a foundational infrastructure to support competency-based education (CBE) in the program aligned with the program learning outcomes.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness and impact of CBE to identify and prioritize improvements needed to the infrastructure; refine the implementation of CBE educational programs; and optimize the external validation and reporting of learning.
  • Communicate changes in curriculum and program standards to affect the program and assist with implementation.
  • Manage, maintain, and revise the catalog regarding curriculum, course descriptions, and other relevant instructional pages.
  • Design and manage the annual program curriculum review process in coordination with Department Chair/Program Director/Associate Program Director
  • Coordinate the systematic review and evaluation of the curriculum and assessment functional area per the model adopted by the program, including the development and monitoring of outcomes and plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes and plans.
  • Serve as the Chair of the curriculum committee while holding regular meetings with ongoing attention to action items to improve the curriculum
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director/Associate Program Director

Serve as Assistant / Associate / Full Professor in the Department of PA Studies through the following, additional duties, as assigned by the Department Chair:

  • Collaboration and engagement in research and other scholarly activity regarding educational and professional practice
  • Communication and advancement of the strategic plan and initiatives of the University, School, and Department, including championing the commitment to Diversity and Inclusion and fostering an environment where all members of the university community can thrive
  • Representation of the program on department-, school-, and university-level committees and in community service activities
  • Active participation in local, regional, and national PA educational and professional organizations
  • Maintenance of applicable professional certification
  • Support and participate in professional development opportunities and scholarly activities
  • Maintain a collegial learning and working environment for the faculty, staff, students, community partners, and other stakeholders
  • Assist in the upholding of current and development of new Department and Program policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

  • Prior teaching, scholarship, and/or research experience at the professional level
  • Five or more years of experience in clinical practice as a Physician Assistant
  • Current National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field
  • Three or more years as full-time faculty in an accredited PA program
