Refining and Petrochemical Process Optimization Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Refining and Petrochemical Process Optimization Engineer based in Mexico.

This is an exciting opportunity for a process engineering professional to apply advanced machine learning technology to optimize complex industrial operations. In this role, you will combine chemical engineering expertise, process knowledge, and data-driven insights to help transform how manufacturing facilities operate. You will work closely with plant engineers, operations teams, and technical stakeholders to identify opportunities, improve performance, and deliver measurable business value. Accountabilities
  • Apply chemical and process engineering expertise to AI-driven optimization projects within refining, petrochemical, and industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Analyze process data, evaluate optimization models, and support the continuous improvement of live production systems.
  • Collaborate directly with plant engineers, operators, controls teams, and business stakeholders to understand operational challenges, constraints, and value opportunities.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers by translating complex technical concepts into practical recommendations and measurable outcomes.
  • Support implementation activities, including commissioning, model validation, performance reviews, and customer training.
  • Present optimization insights, technical findings, and business impact assessments to customer teams and stakeholders.
  • Provide customer feedback and operational insights to product and engineering teams to improve technology capabilities.
  • Support long-term customer success by identifying additional optimization opportunities and helping expand technology adoption.
  • For candidates progressing toward a Solution Manager path, lead customer strategy, coordinate internal teams, manage key stakeholder relationships, and drive value delivery initiatives.
Requirements
  • 3–10 years of professional engineering experience within refining, petrochemical, NGL, ethanol, or related process industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Strong background in chemical engineering, process engineering, process optimization, or industrial operations.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 15–30% to customer sites.
  • Experience working directly with plant operations teams, process engineers, or industrial customers is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of process control, planning, economics, or plant optimization methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience implementing operational improvement initiatives with measurable business impact.
  • Ability to analyze large volumes of time-series data, identify trends, and translate insights into practical decisions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, coordinate stakeholders, and remain organized in fast-paced environments.
  • Customer-facing, consulting, or vendor-side experience is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, adaptability, curiosity, and willingness to learn and apply emerging technologies.
