You will play a key role in analyzing, converting, and migrating JCL-based batch processes from traditional mainframe environments to platforms such as Azure and distributed systems.

The Mainframe Migration Engineer will be responsible for analyzing legacy mainframe workloads, supporting migration activities, and ensuring successful transformation into modern platforms while maintaining business continuity and technical quality.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain mainframe batch processes, including JCL jobs, spool outputs, SMF data, and scheduling workflows.
- Review and assess Control-M and other mainframe scheduling environments to support migration planning and execution.
- Investigate CICS environments, including loaded programs, configurations, and dependencies required for modernization efforts.
- Perform migration analysis using mainframe tools such as ISPF, GDG, PDS, and MFT.
- Convert legacy mainframe batch jobs and JCL processes into PowerShell scripts designed for Azure environments.
- Configure, automate, and maintain scheduled batch processes across cloud platforms, including nightly, weekly, and monthly workloads.
- Optimize batch job execution through improved concurrency, performance tuning, and thread safety practices.
- Gather and document business and technical requirements related to existing batch operations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define migration expectations, technical solutions, and operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain secure PowerShell modules, including automation practices, code signing, and security controls.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, troubleshooting sessions, and technical discussions with cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with application developers, database specialists, cloud engineers, and mainframe experts to deliver successful migration outcomes.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in mainframe technologies, cloud migration, and automation, with the ability to bridge legacy systems and modern architectures while collaborating effectively with technical teams.
- 8+ years of experience working with mainframe technologies and enterprise application environments.
- Expert-level knowledge of IBM mainframe JCL, batch processing concepts, GDG, PDS, and related legacy technologies.
- Strong experience with mainframe job scheduling tools, particularly Control-M, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and workflow management.
- Hands-on experience with CICS environments, including program analysis, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting mainframe modernization or migration projects involving cloud or distributed platforms.
- Proven ability to analyze and convert JCL scripts into PowerShell-based automation solutions.
- Strong experience with PowerShell scripting and automation in Microsoft Azure environments.
- Knowledge of Azure services, Azure Storage, and cloud-based batch processing solutions.
- Experience with C#/.NET and SQL Server is considered an asset.
- Understanding of scripting concepts such as concurrency, locking mechanisms, and thread safety.
- Experience operationalizing batch jobs and ensuring reliable production execution.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and cross-functional team collaboration.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business stakeholders.
