We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our multidisciplinary nursing team. This role is essential in supporting the medical needs of individuals receiving detoxification and substance use treatment services. Schedule: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and alternating Wednesdays: 7:00 pm to 7:30 am

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant provides safe, effective, and patient-centered care while supporting the medical needs of residents throughout the admission, treatment, and discharge process. Working closely with nursing, medical providers, behavioral health staff, and the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Medical Assistant helps ensure a safe, therapeutic environment and promotes positive treatment outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with new patient admissions, medical assessments, and orientation.
  • Assess, document, and communicate residents' medical needs while collaborating with Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), nursing staff, and clinicians.
  • Provide medical support throughout the admission, treatment, and discharge process.
  • Accurately transcribe physician orders and maintain timely documentation.
  • Monitor residents' self-administration of medications and prescribed treatments in accordance with established protocols.
  • Perform and document withdrawal assessments using CIWA and COWS protocols, identifying signs of over-sedation or potential medical emergencies.
  • Support staff during resident de-escalation and crisis intervention while maintaining a therapeutic environment.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with the Nursing Manager, healthcare providers, and the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding resident care and status changes.
  • Monitor, document, and maintain accurate medical records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Encourage resident compliance with treatment plans, facility policies, and program expectations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current California Certified Medical Assistant (MA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a detoxification, substance use disorder, behavioral health, or residential treatment setting.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Understanding of substance use disorders, behavioral health, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Experience performing detoxification assessments using CIWA and COWS protocols.
  • Ability to monitor medication self-administration and recognize adverse reactions or medical concerns.
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
