Position Summary

The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technician will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimizing metal laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) 3D printers. This role involves machine setup, build execution, post-processing, quality assurance, and continuous process improvement. The AM Specialist will work closely with engineers, production teams, and quality control to ensure the highest standards in additive manufacturing production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate metal laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) machines, including loading powders, performing quality checks, and maintaining optimal machine conditions.
  • Monitor builds, identify and troubleshoot printing defects, and maintain detailed documentation of machine parameters, build records, and part outcomes.
  • Conduct safe powder handling, including recovery and sieving, and perform support and build plate removal for printed components as requested.
  • Use metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, optical microscopes, and CMMs to measure and verify part quality.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on LPBF machines, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and escalate as needed.
  • Manage consumables inventory and ensure proper storage, handling, and traceability of metal powders and related materials.
  • Ensure machines and work areas comply with safety, cleanliness, and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers on DFAM feedback, document lessons learned and propose updates to standard operating procedures for process improvement.
  • Follow all safety protocols for powder handling, use PPE and environmental controls appropriately, and participate in hazard assessments and emergency training.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable industry standards such as ISO, AS9100, and ITAR, supporting audits and documentation as required.
Requirements:

Additive Manufacturing Technician II

  • 3+ years of experience operating and troubleshooting industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform hands-on maintenance and part finishing.
  • Proficiency with GD&T, metrology, and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with engineers and production personnel.
  • Computer skills such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, etc

Additive Manufacturing Technician III

  • 5+ years of experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial manufacturing equipment, preferably within an additive manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex equipment, process, and material issues.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting process improvements, equipment optimization, and manufacturing problem-solving.
  • Advanced proficiency with GD&T, precision measurement tools, metrology techniques, and interpretation of complex engineering drawings.
  • Experience documenting procedures, troubleshooting guides, and process improvements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, and production teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing documentation/data systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with operation of additive manufacturing equipment/technologies (EBM, Binder Jetting, DED, etc.)
  • Knowledge of general manufacturing methods such as HIP, CNC machining, wire EDM, and electropolishing.
  • Experience in aerospace, medical, or automotive AM production environments.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, 3DXpert, Fusion 360, Magics, etc.)

This position is open across multiple levels (II & III). Final leveling will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and overall qualifications during the interview process.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 75 lbs. and handle sensitive components with care.
  • Hands-on shop floor work, requiring standing for extended periods.
  • Exposure to high-temperature components, compressed gases, and metal powders.

Salary: Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, and internal equity.

Additive Manufacturing Technician II: $26.50 – $33.50 hourly

Additive Manufacturing Technician III: $30.50 - $38.50 hourly
