Trainee Healthcare Assistant Hibernia Academy for Care

If you've been thinking about a career in care but don't have your QQI yet, this is your way in. Our Hibernia Academy for Care is a fully sponsored training programme that takes you from classroom to community with pay from day one.

We have 12 fully sponsored places commencing September 2026at our training facility in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. Applicants from Dublin, Kildare, and Wicklow can apply.

The details

  • Training location: Hibernia House, Blanchardstown Corporate Park, Dublin 15
  • Programme: 2 weeks classroom-based + 1 week assignment support + structured community induction
  • Paid: Yes you're paid for classroom time, orientation, and all supervised shifts
  • Employment after graduation: Permanent contract 15, 20, 25, or 30 hours per week, agreed based on your availability
  • Service areas: Dublin, Kildare, and Wicklow your place of work will be within an agreed service area defined through your availability assessment
  • Transport: Access to your own car is desirable. In urban Dublin locations, we can facilitate carers who travel by public transport or on foot.

What the programme covers

You'll complete two QQI Level 5 modules Care of the Older Person and Care Skills delivered in our own classroom by experienced trainers. The programme also covers practical care skills, Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Persons, and Infection Control.

After classroom training, you'll complete a structured induction: 1-to-1 shadowing with a qualified carer, community orientation, and mentorship from the Hibernia management team. Assignment support is built in you won't be left to figure it out alone.

Graduates are then supported to complete the remaining six modules toward the full QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Support, with a personal development plan to guide your progression.

Who this is for

You have some personal or professional experience with care maybe a family member, maybe a previous role and you know this is the direction you want to go. You're motivated, reliable, and ready to commit to two weeks of intensive classroom learning followed by a career you can build on.

This programme is ideal for career changers, returners to work, or anyone who's been held back by the qualification barrier.

What you'll need

  • You must have current eligibility to work in Ireland this is a non-negotiable requirement
  • Available for 2 full weeks of on-site training in Dublin 15 (MonFri)
  • Ability to work contracted hours after graduation (1530 hours per week)
  • Willingness to undergo Garda Vetting (mandatory before first client contact) & Reference Checks.
  • Full clean driving licence is desirable but not essential for all locations
  • Some personal or professional experience in care

What you get

  • Fully paid training classroom, orientation, and supervised shifts
  • Two QQI Level 5 modules completed and certified
  • Pathway to full QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Support
  • Immediate permanent employment on completion
  • Pay from 14.15/hour (average carer rate 16.10/hour), with enhanced evening and weekend rates up to 20.00/hour. Paid fortnightly.
  • Mileage rate of 30c/km for drivers; flat-rate travel allowance of 1040 per fortnight for non-drivers
  • Health plan for you, your spouse/partner, and dependents (aged 1622 in full-time education) includes digital GP, EAP, and health & wellness benefits
  • Death in Service (life cover) provided
  • Pension auto-enrolment or optional PRSA, subject to terms and conditions
  • Refer a Friend bonus and educational credits

Note: Whilst there is no charge for the course and qualifications youll achieve via this sponsored training opportunity, we do ask candidates to sign an agreement to work with the company for at least 12 months. We will discuss this during your interview.
