The primary focus of the position is representing NAHB and its members in the International Code Council’s code development process and on standards development committees for key topics including electrical, fire safety, accessibility, egress, and/or structural.

The successful candidate will work with NAHB’s Construction, Codes & Standards Committee and other NAHB committees and councils to address the impact of building codes and standards on residential construction and provide input on NAHB policies.

  • Maintaining positive working relationships with code & standards development organizations, allied trade associations, building official organizations, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Assisting NAHB members, state and local association staff, and others with code adoption, interpretation and enforcement issues, writing posts for NAHB’s blog, developing webinars.
  • Creating other resources to ensure NAHB remains the premier source of information and education on residential construction.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering, architecture, construction management, material science or a related field, or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience related to the design and construction of residential buildings and/or ensuring their compliance with building codes.
  • Must be able to review and understand the technical basis of building codes and standards, communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, and offer practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational competence, and the ability to collaborate with others is required.
  • Travel to building code hearings, committee meetings, technical workshops, and other industry events is required.
  • Prior experience in building code development or service on industry standards committees is desirable.
