Postdoctoral Research Associate in Urban and Regional Energy Systems Modeling
Location: Princeton, New Jersey

Salary Range or Pay Grade: PDRA: $65,000-$70,000
Description

Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Urban and Regional Energy Systems Modeling, with a focus on techno-economic, sustainability, and/or resilience analysis. The successful candidate will work with Professor Anu Ramaswami’s Urban Nexus Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University.

The successful candidate will contribute to several U.S.-based and international research projects related to urban and regional energy systems. The position will involve energy systems modeling and analysis across multiple spatial and systems scales, with opportunities to contribute to interdisciplinary research addressing the techno-economic performance, sustainability, and resilience of energy systems.

The primary expertise sought for this position is in energy systems modeling. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working with energy systems models and applying quantitative and computational approaches to energy systems analysis.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in energy systems engineering, mechanical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. A Ph.D. in a relevant field is expected by the start date.


Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Experience in energy systems modeling and analysis, including model development, implementation, and interpretation of model outputs, and experience working with models at multiple spatial or systems scales.
  • Experience with techno-economic analysis and/or sustainability and resilience analysis of energy systems.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming, computational, or modeling environments commonly used for energy systems analysis, such as Python, MATLAB, R, Julia, GAMS, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with and analyzing quantitative datasets.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Experience with mathematical optimization, scenario analysis, data visualization, GIS/geospatial analysis, or other computational approaches relevant to energy systems research is desirable but not required.
