Job Summary
The Gatton College of Business and Economics Multimedia Studio is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Student Assistant to support the production of high-quality instructional videos and digital course content. In this role, you will work directly with college faculty and instructional staff to prepare studio space, operate recording hardware (cameras, lighting, microphones, and teleprompters), and edit raw video/audio footage into polished instructional assets. This position offers hands-on experience in video production, digital editing workflows, and client collaboration within a professional academic setting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Studio Operations & Equipment Setup (30%):
o Prepare audio, lighting, camera, and teleprompter gear prior to scheduled recording sessions.
o Maintain an organized, clean studio environment and manage production inventory.
o Assist with routine equipment maintenance, cable management, and storage.

• Production & Faculty Collaboration (30%):
o Assist faculty during recording sessions, providing a welcoming and supportive studio experience.
o Monitor audio/video feeds during recordings to ensure proper exposure, sound levels, and framing.
o Manage script prompts and assist instructors with on-camera comfort and pacing.

• Post-Production & Editing (30%):
o Import, organize, and archive raw audio and video files following established file-naming conventions.
o Perform primary and secondary edits, including trimming, color adjustment, audio cleaning/noise reduction, and adding lower thirds, graphics, or captions.
o Export final deliverables in appropriate formats for upload to the Learning Management System (Canvas) or video repository (Yuja Lumina).

• Administrative & Other Duties (10%):
o Communicate session availability and project updates to supervisors.
o Perform other media-related tasks as assigned.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
• Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with basic video recording concepts (framing, lighting, audio monitoring) and digital video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve).

• Communication & Professionalism: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and comfortably with faculty, staff, and peers

. • Organization: High attention to detail with project organization, file management, and time management.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues or software hiccups calmly during live sessions.
• Reliability: Punctuality and consistent attendance during scheduled studio hours.

Required Qualifications
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Kentucky in good standing
• Basic familiarity with video editing software and computer file management.

Preferred Qualifications
• Academic major or minor in Media Arts and Studies, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Digital Media, Journalism, or a related field.
• Prior experience operating studio cameras, studio lighting rigs, or multi-channel audio interface equipment.
• Familiarity with screen recording tools, green screen keying, or motion graphics (e.g., Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects).
• Experience creating or editing closed captions and accessible digital media.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift to 25–30 lbs. of media equipment (tripods, light stands, camera cases) and adjust ceiling/floor production gear. Requires extended periods of sitting, operating computer equipment, and viewing a monitor.

• Working hours: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, 10 to 20 hours per week
