Lead DriverMerritt Island, FL, USA | Full-Time (40)

The Lead Driver is responsible for supporting the daily operation of the CSS/Blue Origin shuttle service while serving as the primary liaison between drivers, management, facilities, and Blue Origin. This position requires strong communication, leadership, organization, and a commitment to safety and customer service.

The Lead Driver will assist with driver support, scheduling, safety communications, employee concerns, training, supplies, and on-site operational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and liaison with Blue Origin regarding shuttle service operations.

  • Communicate important updates, schedule changes, driver concerns, and operational needs to management and facilities.

  • Use the QR communication app to report and communicate driver safety updates, notifications, and facility-related concerns.

  • Ensure customer requests and operational needs are communicated and addressed promptly.

On-Call Responsibilities
  • Participate in a 24-hour, 7 day a week on-call operation as part of the shuttle service contract.

  • When assigned to on-call coverage, the Lead Driver must be available and respond immediately to calls, messages, and operational concerns.

  • If an on-site issue requires assistance while on call, the Lead Driver must report to the site to provide support.

  • For safety reasons, the Lead Driver cannot perform driving duties and on-call responsibilities simultaneously.

Scheduled Driving Requirements
  • Work two 8-hour driving shifts per week to remain familiar with day-to-day shuttle operations and provide on-site support.

  • Driving shifts will be scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, based on operational needs.

  • The Lead Driver's schedule must be coordinated with the Manager's schedule to ensure appropriate on-call coverage.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of shuttle routes, customer expectations, driver procedures, and site requirements.

Scheduling & Driver Support
  • Serve as the first point of contact for driver schedule changes, rescheduling, leave requests, vacations, and call-offs.

  • Assist with finding appropriate coverage when drivers are unavailable.

  • Check in regularly with drivers to ensure operations are running smoothly and identify any concerns or assistance they may need.

  • Assist employees with questions, concerns, and operational issues.

  • Help ensure drivers are following company procedures and meeting customer service expectations.

Manager Support
  • Provide coverage and operational support when the Manager is out of the office due to PTO, vacation, illness, or other approved leave.

  • Assist with day-to-day operational decisions within the scope of the Lead Driver role.

  • Communicate important issues to management in a timely and professional manner.

Safety & Weather Awareness
  • Monitor weather and safety conditions that may affect shuttle operations.

  • Communicate safety updates and weather-related concerns to drivers and management.

  • Assist drivers with safety-related questions or concerns while on site.

  • Report any safety or operational concerns immediately.

  • Be prepared to respond on site when circumstances require additional support.

Supplies & Site Support
  • Check the supply cabinet at the on-site refueling station regularly.

  • Use the Procure Desk to request and obtain supplies needed for shuttle operations.

  • Help ensure drivers have the necessary supplies and resources to perform their duties effectively.

Training
  • Assist with on-site training and orientation for new drivers.

  • Help new hires become familiar with shuttle procedures, site expectations, safety requirements, and customer service standards.

  • Support management with ongoing driver training as needed.

Administrative & Technical Skills
  • Must be comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams.

  • Maintain accurate schedules, communications, and operational information.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally through phone, email, Teams, QR applications, and in-person interactions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

  • Must be dependable, flexible, and willing to assist when operational needs arise.

  • Must understand that communication, professionalism, and clear wording are critical to the success of the team and the shuttle service.

Important Scheduling & Safety Requirement

The Lead Driver position is a critical operational support role. Because the shuttle contract operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Lead Driver must understand the expectations associated with on-call coverage and be prepared to respond immediately when assigned.

Safety is the top priority. The Lead Driver must never attempt to perform driving duties while simultaneously handling on-call responsibilities.
