Job Overview:

RWJBH is seeking an experienced Pediatric APP for a lead position at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center.

Schedule:

  • 40h, Day Shift, Flexible
  • 50% clinical (12hr shifts, 7a-7p)
  • 50% administrative
  • Weekends on rotation

Licenses/Certification/Requirements

General Requirements

  • CDS and DEA
  • BLS and ACLS
  • Master's Degree
  • 5 years of related clinical experience, leadership experience preferred

PA Requirements

  • PA License
  • NCCPA

APN Requirements

  • APN License
  • RN License
  • NP Certification

Clinical Functions

  • Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement specific to the clinical areas the APN will conduct their practice within, and performs a periodic review of the collaborative agreement in accordance with hospital policy,
  • Examines and evaluates patient's health status by performing an advanced physical exam and obtaining a comprehensive health history,
  • Maintains clear and accurate documentation according to hospital policy
  • Initiates and performs selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures
  • Initiates consultations and laboratory examination
  • Prescribes and alters medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area
  • Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings and evaluates what findings need collaboration or referral to other health professionals or appropriate resources
  • Consults with physician as established in the collaborative practice agreement
  • Establishes a diagnosis and orders appropriate medical and nursing therapies
  • Anticipates needs of the patient and evaluates the plan of care for the patient, and makes modifications as indicated
  • Reviews discharge needs of the patient and family, and participates in discharge planning
  • Documents current health status and projects future health needs
  • Communicates with all members of the health care team to assure a unified approach to the patient's plan of care
  • Participates in team meetings and conferences when available, to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to health care delivery
  • Serves as a role model for the nursing staff in care delivery
  • Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion, but not less than bi-annually
  • A minimum of 25 charts/records will be reviewed bi-annually
  • Participates in identifying learning needs of staff
  • Assists in education of staff to obtain clinical skills related to specific populations
  • Participates in the education of students by serving as a lecturer and precepting students in the clinical area, if requested and able to accommodate
  • Participates in continuing education at the hospital, community or national level
  • Educates patients and families regarding all aspects of their health care
  • Educates patients and families on taking responsibility for the management and maintenance of their own care
  • Consults with health care team and is available to colleagues for consultations

Leadership Functions

  • As requested by the Director Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Department's goals
  • As requested by the Directors provides input into evaluations of staff performance
  • Assists staff to comply with regulatory requirements and standards

Professional Enrichment

  • Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self-assessment, peer review, and annual performance evaluation
  • Maintains requirements for certification by professional organization and New Jersey State Board of Nursing
  • Annually reviews protocols with collaborating physician
  • Participates in approved continuing education programs and professional associations in area of clinical specialty in accordance with the Hospital s policies
  • Maintains current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Environment of Care Standard
  • Demonstrates the awareness of safety, security, life safety, emergency preparedness and utility and equipment management policies competencies
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions
  • Adheres to Safety and Infection Control policies
  • Attends mandatory in-services
  • Helps maintain a safe and clean patient/work environment
  • Follows incident reporting procedures
  • Ensures that appropriate standards of practice follow corporate compliance guidelines, anare in the best interest of both patients and the hospital
